Has anyone added weight for wakeboarding?

I realize this is opposite to what most of us do. But I've sort of been bitten by the wakeboard bug and lets face it, light fairly shallow hulls don't throw a big wake.

I've jacked up my pylon to about 6' above the floor and reinforced it. Now I'm looking at fat sac's. Any experience with these? I'm not real concerned with the floor strength - it is alot of weight, but very spread out and even. Two guys standing next to each other in a boat put more PSI down than these bags, and I'm not going to go hammer through waves with 'em full.

I know my starliner will never produce the wake of a big v-drive boat, but I think it could be pretty good... and the cool thing is you empty the bags, swap a prop and the same boat will push 70 mph. I have a dual sport dirt bike (2 stroke!) - why not a dual sport boat?

To that end, I'm looking for a used 19P trophy. Yes, 19P... I'll post in another area for that. Or maybe I'd try a 19P hustler prop...

Thoughts, opnions?!

NAFB,

Funny you would say that, I feel the same way. Going fast is fun without question, but I am much more into watersports and having a good time!

With that being said, I have often thought about investing in the fat bags.

My two concerns (very minor) were as follows:

  1. Where to put them, behind the rear seat I have the oil tank starboard and dual batteries port.
  2. To drain them would you simply pull the plug and drain them into the bilge? or run a separate pump to the bilge line?
Is your ski pole telescoping or fixed...any pics?

I would like to see how this goes.

Good luck

i'm w/ you both ! kids skiing tubing n tryng to wakeboard too! i've already sold my fastest prop just cuz it wasnt worth it to me. sad to some ,but i'm a family first guy . my boat seems to never be under weight to need fat sacs, but either tryn to load peple to the bow or toying w/ a set of tabs for low plane speed , and/or smaller prop

TRIM TABS?!

Zach - I have no idea why I haven't thought of that! I love to have things to tweak on my boat and that might help me plane more at wakeboard (or airchair) speeds.

HD - the hardcore wakeboard guys put huge fat sac's right on the floor. I'm pretty sure they're set up so that a pump can fill or drain them from a hose you stick overboard. From what I've read you want about a 60/40 rear/front weight dist. Weight towards the rear causes a peakier or even white wake. So you can tune the wake with the weight distribution.

My buddy at Burt lake gave me 2 medium sized fat sacs - they are from his mastercraft and he won't ever use 'em. So over the 4th of july, I'll try them out and see how it goes.

My pylon is adjustable, so I have it about as tall as it will go. Boat is up north, I'll see if I have any pics.
