Hello, and looking for a checkmate in the south

BAMA

New member
I have been checking out the forum for a couple weeks. Nice board, lots of good info. Trying to find a good Checkmate within a couple hours drive of Alabama. I like pretty much all the boats I've seen. Don't really have a preference for I/O or outboard. Wife would like a place to get out of the sun occassionally. How much room is under the dash of the smaller boats? What about under the dash of the Senator? I really like the red/white/black one for sale on this board. Gimme whatever help ya can guys. Thanks ahead of time. :thumb:

Hi

there isnt much space under the deck of a 17' checkmate at all. just enough room for life jackets, cooler etc...however you could always get a bimini top from west marine or overtons if you decided to get a smaller boat. its basically a universal part that will bolt right on and keep you out of the sun. Keep an eye out on ebay and craigslist you might find one in your area. thanks. goodluck

Hey Bama, I have a 2004 2100 Pulsare long deck for sale. It has plenty of room in the play pen area for the wife to get out of the sun. It is priced without engine, but I have a friend who is a Merc. dealer. Send me a PM if interested. Thanks, boatman

WV still a couple hours from bama boatman? lol

hey bama,
Checkmate was not big in the south, i would plan on expanding that distance, i would look nationwide. if the price is right it can be delivered at a reasonable price and you will not have to drive the 2 hours. dont know your price range so for example (20k locally, 19k in Michigan - you could probably have it delivered for the price difference) and have a larger selection.

Anyone know the price to ship a boat - coop? (lol ship-boat) if ya ship a boat do you boat a ship?

for my next checkie i will be doing that, there are so many more choices further north and i am in VA.

More info Chuck

What kind of cosmetic issues? Interior, exterior, hull? Any idea what price ball park you would be in? Can you give more info on your boat, ie, engine, top speed, prop? Thanks.

I'm in Birmingham as well, and keep my boat on Logan Martin. You don't see too many Checkmates around, but there are a few. Great boats! Mine is a 1980 Entertainer, and it's still one of the best looking and performing boats on the lake! Good luck with your search.

Anderson Marine in Cullman Alabama used to sell Checkmates. So did McMinn Marine in Meridian Mississippi. I saw a lot of Checkmates when I lived in the deep south. We boated on Lake Okatibbee in Mississippi and the Tombigbee, Alabama, Black Warrior, and Tennessee rivers. Went to Smith Lake a couple of times.

MY DIPLOMAT CAME FROM AMORY MARINA IN AMORY MS IF THAT HELPS ANY

still selling in the south

are there any marina's or shops still with Checkmate sales? I have seen the ad for the place in Florida. Does Checkmate delivery guy ever deliver any around the south? Southeast that is:)

Mine is about to be for sale in SC. 17' 1976 V-Mate II / Mercury 115.

Nowhere to get out of the sun, but you could put on a bimini top as we were about to do.

Hull is great, motor is great (will have totally rebuilt power trim and dual cable steering added before sale - working on that now), but the interior needs some work. Carpet and floor are OK, but seats are not perfect. We don't mind it like it is, but the vinyl is coming apart and has some foam showing in a couple places.

Price will be around $3500

There were a lot of Checkmates around here in Decatur in 1977 when I moved here. I always thought they were built in the South. I imagine it was due to Andersons, they had a store here in Decatur back then. I havent seen one up here in years until I bought mine last month.
