Hello from Oregon

Well-known member
Well I just got a 1982 Checkmate enticer with a Johnson 80. Its not really new to me since my dad bought it new in 1982 and that boat has been following me around for most of my life. Dad decided he hadnt had it out in too long and offered it to me. I have been all over the country in that boat. It will need some interior work to be sure but I hope to have it out on the river in the spring. I cant even begin to tell you how much skiing Ive done behind that boat.

Freaking "A", man!!!! You grew up with a Check, it's given to you and you join up and don't show us any pics?
First off;
1. Welcome!!!
2. Let's see some pictures!
3. I wanna hear some stories about you and your time with this boat and your family!
Damn glad to meet ya.

I know, I know. Ive got to drive down to his place this weekend and pick it up. I'll get some before pics when I get it back here. Needs a battery and upholstery work to be sure. The old man ( now 70 ) had the transmission
rebuilt just before he stopped using it and the compression is good on all cylinders.

This boat has pulled skiers in South Carolina, North Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio, California, Washington, Texas , Oregon and Florida and both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans plus the gulf of Mexico. It has held drunken teenagers, naked teenagers, teenagers having sex, teenagers fighting, teenagers laying down on vicious slalom runs and every one of my 3 wives have been a passenger at some point. My dad flat brutalized me and my brothers on tubes in the CIRCLE OF TRAMA. I learned to drive a trailer moving this boat around when I was 15 and to this day I get people complementing me on my trailer maneuvering skills. It will be good to get it in my grubbies.

Welcome , it sounds like a long history and i wish i was there for all of it. Post some pic's and send some detailed storys!!!!!!!!:bounce:

Just pulled it out of the weeds in the old mans back 40, got it streetable and towed it 150 miles home. I was off a bit. Its a '81 with a Johnson 90. Bought a new battery at walmart and at least the trim works. Probably hasnt run in 10 years though so I'm taking it slow and shooting some kroil into the cylinders to loosen things up before I fire it. new oil, gas etc. Interior is trash so that will come after getting the motor running. Keeps me out of the bars. I'll get some pics tomorrow.
