Hello ALL! Nice site been lurking for a couple days waiting on my membership. I am also on the XL Forum too. These are very simular sites. My son just bought a 1981 Checkmate open bow With a 305 chevy in it and we are new to having Boats, my question is what model do we have Serial # chk 17168m81c. is there any one that can help? hope to post pic soon. I do have other questions but they will come in time. Thanks All keep up the good work.....

Thanks all. I do have a few questions?
1. Where would be the best place to get original replacement parts? Like the hatch cover seal and the latches that hold the hatch down.
2. We had the boat out last weekend and it ran like S***t would not idle and missing all thur the stick range. we did notice there was oil all over the front of the motor and down in the Bilge area after running full thotle. We had to change out the carb becouse the old was leaking bad so (Quadra Junk) so we took the one one off our 83 camaro i had a few other plug ins for the choke so before we took it off of the car we pulled off all the wire plug ins and car still ran fine so we decided to put it on the boat. when we check the oil it seened to be over filled and smelled like gas. so my buddie came over and changed the cap, points, condenser, rotor button and plugs, oil change. Now it sarts on the first turn of the key runs good and idles great and we can not see any oil leaking any place. Do not see any cracks in block or heads. He said it was chokeing out the motor besouse the ignition was bad and the carb choke butterfly was not opening and flooding the Motor. Is he on the right track or do we have other problems? Also he is rebuilding the carb that was on the boat. i realy dont know if it is the right one or not. is ther a way to tell if it is a marine carb or not. Thanks for the HELP!

With gasoline going into the engine, I would suspect the manual fuel pupmp as first cause. Its possible for the carb to put some fuel in the oil but not likely much or while running. Most likely dry rotted diaphram on pump dumping directly into engine. Also, You may not know this, but the auto carb does not have the proper marine set-up for the fuel pump diapham leak/ weep hole hose. This line should connect the pump to the carb and its only funtion is to dump gas directly into engine if the diaphram leaks on the pupmp so it does not go into the bilge potentially causing a fire.

Change the pump with a marine pump and as soon as you can put a marine carb back on it. Just may save you a fire one day.

Thanks A36 PILOT. So you are saying replace the mechanical fuelpump that is bolted to block on the front of the engine on the left hand side of the motor? The other one with the filter on it is called the fuel water seperator. it is bolted off a bracket in front of the fuel pump. Am i right with saying this. Thanks
