Help on pulsare setup

I have not ran anything other than fishboats for a long time, I had a star flight with a 2hirstyfive evenrude 25 years ago.
I just bought a 2006 pulsare 2100. It has a 250xs with sportmaster, 5 1/2" cmc jackplate and a 25 tempest prop. I have only a couple of hours of seat time and am getting the feel for it, I've only been a little over 60mph so far because both trips I had 4 people in the boat and didn't want to scare them yet.
I've been reading about these setups for weeks now in anticipation of the purchase and it looks like the hot setup for max speed is 14" setback, 27 trophy and learning the technique and it should do 80.
It seems to me in its current configuration that's its happy to cruise 30-50 but if its rough and I slow much below 30 the bow is constantly bouncing up and down. It seems to me that it needs trim tabs for slower speeds. Will the 4 blade trophy help with the bouncing?
My goal is to have a wide range of speed and control. Most of the time it will have 4 aboard, I would like to be able to cruise across tampa bay on a rough day at 25-30 and not have the bow bouncing the whole time. Obviously on a calmer day speeds would be 40-50. Max top end is not my priority at this time, smooth and easy to drive is the goal and mid 70s would be plenty.
What combo of prop, setback, trim tabs do the experts here recommend. I was thinking a 26 trophy. I know more setback is faster but the front already seems light and bouncy.

I recall some putting tabs on a pulsare ,but never heard of outcome ... I’m still playing w my setup on my 18’ pulsare . My % of wot w/1 or 2 people aboard seems to go in spurts ,but lot of water sports & cruising . so I usually prop or set up for that
 
We have had a couple of Pulsare BR2100's. Currently have a 1995 with an 07 250 ProXs on it with a torque master gear case. We do have 13-1/2 inches of setback and the boat will run in excess of 80MPH. My favorite prop is a Tempest Plus, either a 25 or 27 pitch, we have both. Also have never had an issue with the infamous Checkmate bounce that the Convincors have. Try to play with the engine height and trim to eliminate the bounce. Friends had a 2008 2100 with a 225 HO Evinrude with 10 inches of setback and he had no issue with porpoising,(bouncing). He ran a 26 pitch Raker (3-blade), and ran over 75 MPH. I think the 5-1/2 inches of setback should be fine for what your goals are for the use of the boat, just experiment with the motor height and trim, I just find it hard to believe you would need trim tabs on that boat.

Thanks for the advise. I understand that I probably don't "need" trim tabs. The difference between me and a lot of others on here is that many of you are on lakes or rivers and can just haul ass all the time. A typical day for me would include 10 miles or so of fast river cruising but would also consist of crossing tampa bay or running down the beaches. If its not a pretty flat day you just have to slow down to keep from banging and getting airborne, it when slowing down to these speeds that the nose rides high and seems to bounce up and down constantly. It would seem a little tab would help, maybe not. Not a lot of space on the transom for tabs anyway so maybe they aren't even an option.
 
For slower speeds I usually put the jack plate down to bury the motor than tuck the motor all the way in. The result is a lot of hull/bow in the water, but no porpoising. I could usually adjust power for speed. You can also play with the height of the plate in addition to trim to find your sweet spot.

The porpoising is caused by your prop cavitating. A four blade will give you more prop in the water and most likely result in less porpoising. Lowing the engine on the Transom will also help. On these boats, a hydraulic Jack Plate allows you to adjust the engine height for the conditions and you will never regret installing one. Slow cruising will require the engine and prop lower in the water to provide constant prop grip and no porpoising. For high-speeds, you will want the engine up high and minimize the amount of the lower unit in the water. What this all means is that there is no one perfect height for all boating situations and so the Jack Plate lets you adjust it for what you are doing. Today's 4 blade props are usually within a few MPH in performance of a 3 blade. So unless you are going for all out top end, most boats will be more enjoyable with a four blade prop installed.
 
I’ve had this boat for a year now and I did put the trim tabs on which have been great. I still am not happy with its speed though. Based on everything that I read I think the sportmaster lower is my problem. I will never push this boat to the speeds that require a sporty and it seems unless you are set WAY back and jacked very high it is actually slower than a torquemaster.
I have been running a tempest plus 25 since I bought the boat and just tried a trophy plus 26 on it. I need more seat time and better testing conditions with the trophy but my first impression is that it’s better but not yet any faster or less chine walking. I only have 5.5 setback and jacked up to the top I’m about 2” below the pad. I do have 2 more holes that I could go up which would put the prop shaft very close to even with the pad.
I haven’t been able to break 70mph with this boat and I know it should run 75+ all day long. I’m considering 6 more inches of setback and getting the motor higher but just wonder if this sportmaster is going to be a handicap and it needs to be traded with someone that is fast enough to require it.

If you add setback and raise the motor so it is even with or slightly above the pad the boat will go faster. It will also reduce the severity of chinewalk and increase slightly the speed at which it starts.
Adding 8-10” of setback to what you have is where you would want to be and you should keep the sporty lower.

I would be thrilled with even close to 80, how high are you running your motor?
 
the jackplate is adjustable so for overall running about 1-2" below the pad and for speed runs even with or 1" above the pad. never had any problems with losing water pressure but I always have my eye on that.
