Hey guys,
I am rebuilding a Predictor. I dont kow much about these boats. Im building a Merc 150 XR2 for it. Any Ideas as to how to dial the boat in? whats the best set up? what kind of speed would i see out of it? Do i need a set back plate?
Thanks!

I would...

invest in a hydraulic slider. The benefits are immeasurable, and you can get some setback from it too.:bigthumb:

most people put a 6" setback on the predictors. with a 150 i have been told they will do about 70 mph of coarse depending on the mota.

Thanks Any Brand in mind?

I have a CMC on my boat, I am relatively happy with it. It is still too new to really make a decision. I think they make a 5" which would be pretty good for you.

I am sure others will have an oppinion on this topic...

quite scary!

I had handling problems with my '88 Predictor! Anything above 77 mph or so, and it was
quite scary! But I was probably over-powered with the 200 XRi.

Been doing your researh, eh??? Guess you got the power back up there in the Red Stick area... :cheers

So with a 150 merc and about 5" of set back and proped, i should be looking towards 60-65mph? Also, im looking for the side pieces to the windshield..any guesses to where i could find them?
Thanks

Hey thats my old boat:cheers
Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
Check my old topics regarding the boat and you should get an idea of what to expect from it. You should also chat with 83predictor. He has a predictor with a 150. I would definitely invest in a hydraulic jackplate, and Hydraulic steering before you rig the engine.

Bring her back to life. I had alot of fun in that boat and am glad to see someone is taking the time to restore it.

When I first bought the boat, It was in good condition other than the seats. The only noticable cosmetic issue was the peeling clearcoat on the nose. The splashwell and aft deck were starting to fade when I sold it. Never got around to buffing it out...:(
The trailer was falling apart when I had it, but I never really towed it more than 2 miles anyways.

The side windshiled actually fell overboard when I let my brother take the boat out one day.... I can't imagine what would cause that to happen....:o

Take good care of the boat and keep us updated on the resto. It has potential for sure.

Also, if you need any advice or help, let me know. I have acess to every boat building tool, and supply available. Im not a master boat builder by any means (yet:D), but I can definitely lend a helping hand in the process, and there are planty of experianced mariners with alot of knowledge on this site as well.

On the other hand, with some seat time and only a 150 you should not have problems. Dont let people try to scare you for some reason. I feel my predictor handles and drives better with the V6.
As far as set up goes, get a 4-6" jackplate. I have a CMC man. plate but I really like the Bobs hyd. plates alot. I have run a lot of props on mine so when you get to that point let me know. What type of steering are you going to rig?

Yeah, these boats handle great....I drive mine over 80 all the time with no problems at all.
Does the lower unit have a cone on it?
Like everyone said 4-6" plate, go with hydraulic steering if ya can swing it and put solid mounts on the motor.

:confused:I dont even know were to start on this boat. Its a total basket case!!!!! But i have a very large shop and I have all winter......

I am definitly going with hydr steering, dont know what kind yet..prob bay star not to sure. My lower does not have a cone. And i am looking at jack plates but they are very expensive. Any ideas on brand? The 150 i have melted a piston so im in the process of rebuilding that. The clear coat is peeling bad! so im going to try and sand the top deck and repaint, however those lines are hard to tape and repaint. Boston predictor, if you ever want to come and see the boat its only located in hamptonfalls, NH so feel free to check it out. You guys are awesome and thanks for the info.

You are not going to need a nose cone for your 150. The boat will top out around 70. I am running a 26P LaserII at the moment with my XR2 and it works pretty good. Are you going to be doing a lot of sking, wakeboarding, tubing? If so you should go with less set back. 6 inches for speed.
