HELP WITH OUTDRIVE

CAN ANYONE HELP ME FIND OUT WHY THE OUTDRIVE IS STUCK IN THE UP POSITION AND WILL NOT GO DOWN. IS THERE MAYBE SOME TYPE OF LOCK SOMEWHERE OR WHAT, YOU CAN HEAR THE PUMP WORKING IT JUST DOES NOT GO DOWN. THIS IS A 1984 CHECKMATE EXCITER. THANKS FOR ANY HELP.

A couple of quick things to check. When you hit the switch does the pump run? If so, is the trim pump reservoir full? If it is out of fluid nothing will move, you may have a leaking pump. If the pump is not running, check to make sure it is getting power.

does it go up? or not move in either direction? if the motor is running and is making a normal electric motor noise and not a sucking air noise (out of hyd fluid) I would un hook the hyd lines to the cyl and see if it drops, if it still doesn't drop you have a siezed cylinder. Unbolt the cylinder and lift it up. Put a bolt in the hole to support it and take off the cylinder and replace it.

I had the same thing happen to me a few weeks ago! Unbolt the ram from the top and as
someone trims down gently twist the shaft back and forth with a wooden lever thru the
hole. It's dried out from being up so long. In the future, trim all the way down for storage
(if possible)
