New member
Just wanted to say hello. Just purchased my first boat today - 1988 Checkmate Starlet 18' with the 205 HP 4.3. Looking forward to getting to know and pick the brains of all the seasoned Checkmate owners.

Good day!!

will trust me there is a hole lot of knowleadge here!!! i am not one, but i have learned from here,, welcome!!!!!!

Welcome, and where do you boat??

Right now I'm boating on the Kaskaskia River. Putting in near New Athens, IL. This is southern Illinois. I had her out today - did some skiing, knee boarding, and cruising. The boat runs fairly well. Although there is no marking on the prop, I think it was set up for pulling lower pitch # maybe a 19.. I got it up to 50MPH today on the speedo.

Welcome, I too just bought my 1st Checkmate: 1987 Diplomat 4.3L I/O. I've been hanging around this site for a while and have learned a lot from the members. YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE :bigthumb: I look forward to talking with you and sharing photos:cheers One more day and we'll be boatin' :surf:

the starlet is a real stable dry riding hull

i had one with a 260 hp mercruiser.

th v-8 was pretty heavy in the stern

ran about 60 though

the v-6 is lighter and probably has better wakes for skiing

nice roomy boat though

good luck daren

post some pics when you get a chance
