How many miles do you run in a day of boating?

I was kind of wondering what kind of distance you guys run in a day. AND how much gas do you burn on avg for a days boating?

A couple weeks ago on the river we ran about 45 miles total with 50/50 at 4000 rpm and WOT. I used roughly 23 gal.

A typical day we will run about 30 with some no wake and use around 15 gal. I cant stay off of it long enough to get any better mileage. :D

Most days its a 4 mile trip to the beach for the kids and 4 miles back. Biggest trip I've done was 60 miles each way up and down the Hudson. Used about 25 going up, a little less on the way back since the current was at our back. Running 4000 to 5000 most of the time.

Last Sunday we (me +1) set out adventuring and logged 46 miles on Lake Ozark...burnt 10 gallons and ran hard the whole time.

most weeks we will run 25 to 40 on friday afternoon than run at least
50 to 125 on a saturday and of course sundays will do atleast 30 to 50 -
thats anywhere from 15 to 25 gallons/day

Most I have ever run was 80 miles round trip in lake of the ozarks. Let's just say we burned some gas don't rememeber how many gallons. But on a average boating day we prolly run about 10 miles.

depends on the day, on the bay its around 9 miles out to power island and 18 round trip back to west end beach. if we head out to suttons bay, elk rapids, north port, or farther it could be anywhere from a 30 mile day to 100 plus. as for the fuel, never really paid that much attention. when the guage gets low we head for the fuel dock!

On a local sandbar day about 10-30 miles. A run up along Jupiter Island to St. Lucie and back about 40-50 miles. A run from the lock to Clewiston and back has to be close to 100 miles. Sometimes will just run the lock to Lake Okeechobee which is 52 miles round trip. As far as gas is concerned...that all depends upon if we're just cruising or got the sticks to the glass!!! Alot of the guys I hang with run 80+ mph...

Man, I would be afraid to run that far in mine.

What the heck do you do if you run down the lake 40 miles and break down? That's a long paddle back!

I remember my buddy and I broke down 5 miles from home in our tin boat and it was a disaster. We were nowhere near a launch ramp and the trailer was back home. We managed to get our wives to come pick us up in the truck where we broke down, but we had no choice but to leave the boat behind. Luckily when we came back later on to try to figure out what to do, sure enough the dang thing started or else I don't know what the heck we would have done.

I guess if you're running with buddies they can tow you, but depending on where you are, it could take awhile. :yell:

I've been averaging ZERO for wayyy too long. In FL, avg'd 50+ outing. Best day was 192 miles! Not much idling either, very good but expensive day - think we went through 84 gallons?

My ZERO is about to drastically increase though :)

I haven't been out enough to calculate an average, but last weekend I ran about 45-50 miles and the weekend before I ran about 25-30 miles. I will say I ran a total 75 miles in two weekends and used about 25-26 gallons. None of it was WOT, most of it was 3500-4500 rpms and a small stretch (10 miles or so) was 5000-5300. The engine will run 7k easy with the 23p prop I have on it.

When I did the run up the Hudson I was with 5 other boats. I wouldn't have done that alone. When I went down to Ground Zero for the 10th anniversary of 911 I did the 30 miles each way on my own but had several other guys in the area that were going to pass at some point so I didn't have to worry. The boat never gave me a reason to worry but even though it was rebuilt it is a 13 year old motor after all.

It looks like my fuel usage is right on. I thought for sure it was using way more than it should. :bigthumb:

Running this many miles on the river here is fine. It runs through a couple towns so help is never far away and there is always someone passing by.

When I'm on a river I find it best to park downstream and then drive upstream first, that way if you break down, you still have half your beer left and you just turn it into a float trip!

On Kinkaid, its like 9 miles to see the whole lake, so do that a few times, then do it a few times later.
At t-rock I like to see the whole lake typically 40-60 miles a day and sometimes more. As for fuel usage its a lot probably about 40 gallons a day on long runs running about 4000-4500 rpm. It is always a joke at our dock how much my gas bill is at the end of a week.

Since we're on the fuel consumption topic... this is a little :offtopic: but something to think about.

On my parents big boat, when we run offshore for Marlin or tuna fishing we burn about 350-450 gallons of diesel fuel. That is approximately a 3 hr run each way making 32 knots burning 50 gallons per hour. That is with twin Cummins 715hp QSM11's and a diesel generator running all day. She is about 45' long and weighs in over 30,000 lbs.

Sorry if this too far off topic:o thought some of you guys may be interested in the comparison between two different boating worlds - performance and sportfishing

burn about 350-450 gallons of diesel fuel.

 yikes, thats a big bill for a day

not sure on my mileage, but I know I burn 16 gallons a lot faster than I would like, or compared to when I had the little suzuki on the back, and around here most of my spots dont have gas on the water unfortunately

I've been told that the run from Hartford to the L.I Sound is about 65 miles. I launch there and run about halfway down, do some tubing and fooling around with the kids, then head back, so probably about 50 - 60 miles per run on average. I haven't calculated the gas used per gallon, but I do know that it costs me about $150 bucks every time for 93 octane. I do like to use the throttle though, and I'm not known to back down from a contest of speed now and again (OK probably never)!
