New 1978 Checkmate V-Mate I owner. My wife's father passed away and it was their family boat. It was garage kept and in amazing shape for being almost 50 years old. It has a new 70hp Mercury Force, so we got that running at home.
Finally took it out, and it was leaking bad at the transom. Had it in the water 3 minutes and I already need to make a significant repair. Wish me some luck on this new journey.

I added a 0.375 aluminum plate to the transom. Also added plates to the interior. I'm waiting on the adhesive to cure and we will be taking it out this weekend, again.
I figure with an extra 3/4" of aluminum on the back it will be ready if I want to put a 300hp on it later.
 
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but if the transom is rotten no amount of aluminum plates will fix the water intrusion. Good luck and be careful.
