I need......

...a 15' Teleflex steering cable like a QC II..... I'm upgrading to dual cable and have everything else but the 2nd cable.

Cool, thanks! I say I need a 15' cable. I haven't removed my existing one to measure it. I'm using the method of measurement in the Teleflex catalog tom come up with 15'. I'm going to run the boat this weekend and then tear it down for the conversion next week. Just trying to gather everything up before I begin. Then again, I can put it all together and just add the senond cable once everything else is complete.

There should be a number on it in white paint. Are you measuring the plastic casing or the area in the boat for length?

The area of the boat.

I've got a flashlight and went over the entire length from front to back....except where it passes over the flotation box area under the rear deck. Pulled it down from inside the gunnel and everything. The only thing I could find is "Teleflex - made in USA" on it twice. Both of which are outside the transom. No numbers anywhere that I can find and this cable is nearly new as the previous owner had just replace everything from the dash back. Unfortunaltey w/a single cable setup where a dual setup is needed. Shouldn't be a big deal to disconnect it from the helm and pull it out the back. maybe I'll get lucky and find the number before it comes all the way out.

BTW , can someone post a pic of the dual cable rigging at the motor end. I'm pretty sure I know how the tube/bracket for the second cable attach, but a picture to reference might be very helpful. Thanks in advance.

I have quite a few, I will look tonight and see if that length is what I have one of

Hey Kary, I finally got around to extricating my existing cable and it measures 14'6" (15') total length. The black plastic sheathing measures 11' from fitting to fitting. If you happen to have one in good shape please lemme know. Thanks

I have had 14 things goin with the leak in the bathroom and the russian mafia's two XP's. I swear I will look tonight and post as soon as I get home....the barn is only feet away from where I park when I get home and ya think I could remember.....sorry

Man, I can't remember much other than where the Tangueray bottle is by the time I get home. Believe me, I understand. Besides, I'm still waiting on my steering wheel adaptor to come in. Should be here tomorrow, though. Even if, I can run with one cable for now. That second one is just an add on once I get the rear tube for the second cable rigged, which, thanks to 83Predictor, I now know how it goes together.

BTW, Beetle is going to need a 12' cable. He may be interested in the single cable helm, tilt mechanism and steering wheel I am removing. All of which is nearly new. All he'll need at that point is a cable.

Cables

Color casing (plastic coating)measured as follows:
115" for one
125" for 2
and a dual cable back rack system 125"

I think there both too short for my app., but Beetle can use the 115" I bet. #1 should be a 12' and #2 a 14'.

Thanks, Kary.

Beetle, you listening? This plus one of Kary's cables and you should be good to go....

I have now completed the retrofit of a Telflex Rotary nfb 4.2 Helm and dual cable steering in my Exciter. I picked up a new U-Flex cable right here in town for $60.00 from a local vendor with a apparently pretty big internet presence.... http://www.rodnreel.com/dmarine/

Anyway, I finished the rigging last night and since I had the day off, I took off early this morning for yet another test session. My chine walk has been reduced. It's not that I can control it better, but rather it just doesn't happen as readily as it did with the single cable system. I was hoping that would be the case when after I finished the rigging, I could grab the motor and the only slack was coming from the stock motor mounts...not the steering cable. The "nfb" (no feed back) is also quite nice. I was able to set up at WOT and release the wheel and she was tracking perfectly. I'm a happy boater and my boat just gets better with every little tweak I do. Now to jack the motor up some MORE and find some more prop......
