Insurnace

Who has what for insurance on their mates? I want people with older mates from the early 80s to late 70s to answer only please. Also how much do you pay a year.

Mine is a 1976. I was paying $220 something a year I think and that was with towing. Right now I have none. Some companies won't insure an old boat. The insurance I had was through AllState and was a little scary. You payed x amount per thousand dollars you wanted to insure the boat for, but they only paid an amount established after your claim based on what local boat places said your boat was worth. So I paid for $3500 worth of coverage, but if I had a total loss, I may have only gotten $1500. Who knows.

I have a 1980 Entertainer, and I have insurance through Allstate. I don't know really how good the coverage is, but it is supposed to pay up to $5,000 on the boat, and I think 100,000 liability. It's $220 a year.

When I bought my 85 Eluder a couple years ago I had a hard time finding insurance. My auto insurance company and a few others wouldn't insure a Checkmate at all because it's a high performance boat. I went with Progressive and couldn't be happier. I have $6,000 coverage on boat and trailer, $1,000 personal effects. Comprehensive and collision with disappearing deductible each year with no claims. First year was $221, last year was $196 and I just got my renewal for $179. I'd suggest checking out Progressive.

Until this year we also had Progressive for the boat and a different company for home owner's. We were paying over $200/yr for just liability(Progressive).

We have recently switched all of our insurance policies to Liberty Mutual.
Not only are we saving on our home and auto coverages but also saving on the boat as well.
To have full coverage on the boat with $50 deductable it is $49/yr additional charge. We are getting a group discount and also a payroll deduction discount. (Wife's Employer)
One of my co-workers also has Liberty Mutual and has been happy with them.
I would contact Liberty Mutual and Progressive to get a comparison.

Hope this helps...Good Luck
