Is this painted or applied?

Hi to the board, new guy here with a 1989 Ambassador. Sorry if this is a newbie question.

The picture shows the hull. Is this 3 color (purple, yellow, pink) typical for this year or applied later? Does this look like paint or tape?

Wanted to post an update on this thread. I talked to Mike at the Checkmate factory and he told me that purple was not available on the boats in 1989. He said it wasn't available until the 90's. A search through the old brochures on this site shows purple available in 1993.

Now, do I sand off the purple and go back to the original grey (boring) or stay with purple or go another color?

I have new silver decals, original grey interior trim and a grey bimini on order (thinking that grey will go well with purple)

Any other opinions?

The boat does not look bad. Is the purple paint in good shape. If nothing is peeling I would just leave it alone. You might end up with a big mess if you start sanding on it.

Done!

Well it was all vinyl pinstriping and after many hours of scraping and pulling and hair dryer blowing all the tape is off!

Next up is to aqua buff the whole thing, then apply the new decals from Mike at Checkmate and a couple of small pinstripes to match.

Here are the stripped down pics.

Launch Day!

Thanks for all the kudos on my "barn". When I had it built it seemed like 30X40 would be big enough but I have about filled it up!

Launched it and wanted everyone to see it. Thanks to all who have replied and PM'd and got me in the water!

Thanks guys!

powerstroker: I did put stripes on it, they are kind of hard to see in these pics and now I wish I had gone bigger! Just above the rub rail is a 1/2" black stripe and just below a silver.
