I AM CURRENTLY IN THE MARKET OF PURCHASING A HYDRAULIC (THINK I SPELLED IT RIGHT) JACK PLATE FOR MY SPECTRE 170. WHICH JACK PLATE DO YOU CHECKMATE FANS BELIEVE TO BE THE BEST.

May not be the best, but good for the money is the CMC electric/hydraulic jack plate. Check with Rickracer on this site, he has good prices on them. It's an all-in-one unit, so you don't have to run hydraulic lines through the transom, only a wire.

Checkmates owned: 1995 Pulsare 2100BR/1995 Mercury Promax 225 2.5 EFI. 1995 Persuader 183/4.3 LX V6. 1992 Pulse 171/1992 Mercury XR6 150 hp 2.5 liter.

I would strongly recommend a Detwiler over the CMC. It is head and shoulders above the CMC in looks, quality, build materials, and is warranteed. And you won't find them for less than at Rickracers.com. We do handle CMC, Detwiler, Bob's Machine, Stainless Marine, Hydrodynamics Rapid Jacks, and a few others as well. Let us know if we can help.

I can highly recommend the Heavy Duty series of Rapid Jack plates also.

what about the vance jack plates- they may be a little more but what do you think about the quality? i have a manual plate.

WOW Dude, this thread is FOUR years old.

Yup..it'd definitly an old thread!! There's been three other boats since the Spectra 170 (which now resides in Germany!!) Let's see.. 1994 Checkmate Pulsare/Merc 225Xri (still own), 1987 Talon 21/Merc racing 2.5 245hp, and a 1988 "mint" Hydrostream Valero YT/Merc 175 (sitting in my garage!):D
