Hello,

I just bought a 1985 Pantehr V Mate II rigged with a 200hp Black Max. My question is what, if any, jack plate would be recommended. The boat is in excellent shape and has never been abused. I am thinking a manual jack plate but I am open to suggestions.

A good place to start is a 5 1/2" or 6"
manual is ok, hydraulic is more convenient, dont put one on until you have a water pressure guage and a temp guage.

Its a trial and error thing, but its fun to play with them to find your "sweet spot"

Yep, 6" would be about right. The water pressure gage is a big deal when you start playing with engine height.

I have a manual 5 1/2" jackplate you can have pretty cheap if you want to play around with it till you decide the best size and go hydraulic. $100 + shipping an it's yours.

It came on the boat I just bought used, Checkmate Starliner. I upgraded to a hydraulic 12 inch set up. It's a two piece Springfield Marine 5.5" jack plate. It looks to be dirty and well used, but works fine. I'll see if I can get some pictures and send them to you ASAP.
