jackplate thickness??

I picked up an 8" aluminum set back bracket. its non adjustable. it looks like it is 3/8" thick in the middle and 1/2" thick on front and back where it mounts.

question is....... will the 3/8" on the side be strong enough? should i have the sides boxed in to strengthen it up?

how thick are the cmc plates?

matt-here are some pics i just took of my jack plate.... it is 12 inches and ALL of it is 3/8! i have been out in 3footers and there is still no cracks in the transome! i have talked to (f150gt) on this board and he is running 18" i think, on the same boat... same colors and all and has no problems- he has a different bracket and he made it special. you probley won't need a "jackplate" if you just put the motor on the highest hole! try that before you go and buy a jackplate....i have heard that the cmc's are not that great for the starflite but there will be some arguement once i post this! mine is a "vance manufacturing". (f150gt)told me that they don't start high enough for our boats! the only advantage is you can try and fly when you have a adjustable!!!!! let me know if you want some more pics when it's light out:yell: god i hate winter!!!!!-ross

Ross, thanks for the pics. after looking at mine again i saw that the center was only 1/4". I will have to box in the top and bottom. I don't think 1/4" will cut it. I currently have a 6" land & sea hydraulic jackplate. I'll just add that to the back of this bracket.

I have some ideas for a transom plate I'm going to have fabbed up. I know a guy who knows a guy.:p
