Jelly Deck

Surfer

New member
Hello, I bought a Enchanter a few months back, re-rigged (200hp Merc), new interior, and ran it for the first time last weekend. The boat is reeeeal fast, and handles well, except..... hit a hard wake (I run offshore alot) and the deck turns to jelly. Is this common for this boat, and what fixes are there? Thanks

Check the deck for coring that may be rotted or damaged. Also if it is ok, then you would probably be best glassing in more reinforcements & cloth backing under the deck to stiffen it up.. Some flex is acceptable, but if it is really like jelly or a water bed something may be wrong. It's hard to say for sure without the boat here for me to inspect physically.. :) Jamie / Lakeside.. :)

Jamie, I recognize you from the Donzi registry, hello. The deck really doesn't have much support, other than a "v" rise down the middle, I've read threads on this site about not walking on the deck, as strength isn't that great, but mine is really loose. All is solid underneith, and no real coring / thickness, just seems like multi ply glass with chop on the bottom.

Hey, whats happenin' .. :)

From what you are telling me the most logical next step to add rigidity is to add extra cloth & a framework set up under the deck. Also coring can be added. It would take a little skill & time to do right. Also you wouldnt want to go overkill with products making it then to heavy. Weight is eventually an issue as well.. ;) I know you may be a bit of a distance away, but if you should ever want to send the boat to us, it is a task we could handle for you.. :) Jamie / Lakeside
