Just rambling about good times on the Mississippi

If you don't like to read someone just rambling , then stop hear, 'cause I don't have anything else to do tonight. Anyway I was just wondering how many other people are fortunate enough to have such a great boating place as I do. We go to the Mississippi River in the Alton pool area. When most people hear of the river, they think of boring place , nobody out there but maybe a fish'n here or there. NO WAY! This place is totally LOADED with boats!. There's 4 main sand bar beaches, each is about 1/4 mile long. On the weekends all beaches will always be full. You can't hardly get a boat in there to park. Some people have to anchor out and swim to the sandy beach. It's been getting more and more crouded each year, I think because people aren't going to Lake of The Ozarks as much because of fuel prices. Most of (90%) of the boats out there are I/O's. There is a party cove with topless girls:thumb: and occasionaly nude males also:shakehead: . There's plenty water patrol also. About 6 bars and restaurants to eat and drink, one bar called Capt'n Jacks is my wifes and I's favorite, they have 'dancing poles and cages ' for anyone. Yea the waters dirty and the people get a little dirty for our taste at times but still it's a great place to go. How is your boating places? What are they like? How often do you go? How far is it?

For me, I'm close to Lake Muskoka, Rosseau and Joesph which gives me about 75 miles of boating all within one lockage. we have a liquor store, beer store, grocery store, restaurants, golf courses, and tons of shopping all within a quick walk of the water in the various towns. This area is the playground of the rich and famous (i'm neither). heres a couple of pics:

this is the view of my parents cottage deck:

Wow, that's beautiful!. The white house to the far right in the pics looks like it's floating on the water!

Never been to Alton but you ought to jouney up North on the Mighty Mississippi. River boring? Who says that? How could 2200 miles of river be boring;) Plus current, wing dams and wind tend to keep the stupid boaters away. Those be the ones that leave their motors at the bottom of the river...

I did 300 miles in my checkmate earlier this year up in Minnesota (12 locks). The water gets so clean you can see your feet all the way down. There were stetches during the week were we did not see another boat for long stretches. I can only take about 1 day of partying and craziness then I like to cruise. The Mississippi has both. I cannot say that about the Ozarks hence, I never go there any more. Unless you have 30 plus feet of boat cruising is not an option with my 24 footer. At least in a comfortable manor. But then I grew up on the Mississippi so I am a bit biased...

we grew up boating on lakes around dallas,tx

one summer we took a trip down the arkansaw river in an 18 foot sea sprite tri hull

we water skied 260 river miles from tulsa,ok to little rock,ar

then stayed at de gray resivior for 2 days

i think it was 1974 or 1975

whoa a fellow alton pool runner, awsome, Im up there every single sunday, sat sometimes too, we put in at river side, and head up river to eat at either cedar hill, or head down river to the grafton marina. But then we go and hang on up at two branch island, its nicer up there cause its kinda like mason shute in the fact that there is only one way in and out, and no boats come flying up thru there causeing huge wakes, and its only about 10 feet deep on the one side and it has like a ridge of sand on the other side that you beach on its awsome. My buddy has two sea doos, and he puts in at eagles landing, and he usually hits up iowa island (party beach) but he sometimes heads up the Ill river to Hardin and there is a resturant up there also thats great but not sure the name. Question for you, you know of any checkmates or hydrostreams, or early baja closed bow boats around st louis that are forsale??

Chris

the white house on the right is a boathouse with sleeping accomodation on top - just a little one though - it only has 2 slips, and an outside boat port. the guy only has one boat. the boathouse is worth more than the cottage is!

i'll take a tour of the lake sometime this month and get some cool boathouse pics - there are a few that will hold 10 or more boats.

MISSISSIPPI ROCKS!!!!!

hey bigsbetter, I grew up boating and camping on the river in the wabasha and lake pepin area. I love it.......lot's of boats, people, bar & grills, coves, sand bars etc. Plenty of fun in the sun from spring through fall. We camp next to a marina and across from the boat launch which is good for at least a couple of laughs every weekend watching the 1st timers, drunks, and/or less educated folks launch their boats. Anyway the river rocks!!
