Hello, I'm looking at a 87 exciter 18ft. closed bow i/o. It has a 140 mercruiser in it now but originally had a v/8 . What speed can i expect from 140 i/o ? The boat is in nice shape and has a trailer , price is 2900.00 us. is that a decent price ? I would probably put a 5.0 in it when i get more cash.
thanks Jeff

Thanks for the welcome Chris .My son was in Toronto attending Toronto Airport Christian Fellowship school and met a girl from Ottawa now he's getting married in August and moving to Canada .He loves it there . Maybe I'll bring my boat up for the wedding .

Its a neat boat but did they change the outdrive too? It should have a 1:50 ratio alpha drive on it.If the whole drive set up was replaced then you'll have to replace everything if you want a V8 back in it.The price is about what its worth. I've found that its usually better to spend a little more and get what you want, compared to aggravation

and $$$ of having to do an engine/drive swap.Just my two cents, good luck

Yes it should be a 1:50 gear ratio for a V8. Look at the left side up of the upper gearcase and you should see it stamped into the case. Another thing to remember is you'ed need a complete V8 exhaust set up too.New stuff ain't cheap.

If you could find some newer take offs on ebay you'ed be alright.A lot of weight to ship though.
