"Wanted" Looking for 300XS (Motor has been found and purchased)

They didn't have anything, said all the yankee's up there only want 4 strokes...

Yeah, the C'mate is a better fit. I'm not much of a fisherman, though I do enjoy the couple times I fish each year... If I had Sam's $$, I'd just buy and keep both :poke:!

Not looking for one "cheap", I've seen/heard of a few 08/09's going for right @ $10K w/200ish hrs. They do go fast though, hopefully I'll be the early bird on one, unless you want to sell me one of yours... 250 or 300:thumb:
I love watching those 4 strokeOB lovers at ramp, first they brag how great they are..its so quiet, then watch them put it on the trailer and haul out then drive away with it still running:poke:

If Sam had those kinda bucks he wouldn't have sold his last Pulsare and "upgraded" to an 89 Starliner. BUT, it's the best kind of boat: a paid off one!! lol...I can't believe I missed this one for so long. I'm slippin'.

Congratulations, that's great, best wishes or what ever SIM's standard reply was suppose to be.

BK, I gather you found your motor?

If so, I'll mark the thread title for you.

Let me know. :)

Found.one, not mounted yet tho. Might as well blow another $1500 on hydro jack plate n goodies. Motor came with smartcraft monitor too, pretty nifty gadget.

OK Cool! Congrats!

I'll mark the title of your thread and leave it open for further discussion.

I'm looking forward to seeing what you can do with the 300.

300x

That there are!! just a little concerned about feeding them enough fuel to stay happy!:irked:

Dream4ta I just picked up a 300x for my enforcer that didnt have a ecu so i bought one from Eric @ simons and have him go ahead and reflash/tune. I in the mist of paint the boat right now but once I get it on and run it to make sure everything else is good I'm gonna do the poppet diverter and big bore throttle body (hopefully close to 345hp). Al's enforcer with a stock 300x and worked prop almost saw 80mph I'm hoping to break 80mph+, besides motor mod the only difference of our boat is I'm 8" more setback. If you going for speed then the 300x is the way to go, if mpg is what you then go with the opti.

Here's a pretty good write up on a 300x vs 300opti. http://www.davebushracing.com/mercury-optimax300x-update.html

^ DBR sure does know how to market his product at least ;)

There's been a bunch of x vs xs threads for half dozen years, bottom line is the XS is better in almost every way, except above 6400 RPM's... unless you get a reflashed ECU from DBR, then it's better up top too. Or maybe I'm just jealous I can't afford the fuel bill x owners can... ;)

My biggest worry is that i only have 50 gallons of fuel on hand! no matter witch way i go that is going to restrict me to range but with x's it will prolly keep me under 100 miles range and probably closer to 50 miles and with the xs's i should be able to run between 100 and 150 miles id like to think. depending on props of course! oh and coming up with they money to buy in the first place!! :irked:

There both great motors for sure and make awesome power! If I had the money to afford a xs and didnt get such a sweet deal on my x I'd probably get one. Saving money on fuel would've been nice, but I was also looking for the most speed possible too.

As far a fuel capacity an consumption I thought about that but not much. I'm more of the relaxing type I like to get to are meeting place tie up and throw some cold ones back, and since I don't have any kids or anything I never pull a tube or skier. So my avg weekend driving isn't but 20 miles if that and that's on Saturdays. Sundays we all tie up in our cove so I probably burn more fuel starting the motor and letting it warm up since I don't even drive 100 yards. Lol!

My biggest concern is gonna be when I go to Cumberland on a big weekend, which ill probably pack an extra 10gal of fuel to be safe. That should get me back to a marina where ever I might be out there.

If your running most of the day I would save and spend the extra money on a xs since it will pay off in the long run plus you should atleast still be in the 70 mph area if setup right.

csmyj, thanks that was a very interesting article. I agree that the X motors used LOTS of gas! One thing they do have over the XS motors......is a "cool" look to them, though!

Yea they do have a sweet look to them, a factory Alien cowl look. I can't wait to get mine put on the enforcer, I'm waiting to see what it sounds like after doing Simons tuner mod to it when I do the poppet diverter. I was gonna get a tuner but Eric said it was really just wasting money on the 300x unless your going really extreme i guess, so if the guy that sells the parts tells me it's a waste then ill take his word.

cutting the stock tuner on a stock bore motor is the better option, heck my findings were that the cut stock tuner worked better than the hydrotech tuner did on my 3.1 simon motor. So I would just save the money for gas lol
