Lower unit, i need to take a poll

I have the 8 hole inlet lower unit, so how do you guys feel about plugging holes or adding scoops? Mine are plugged but i want to get some input on this.

just buy my boat, then you don't gotta worry about it!!!!!!
lol
scoops here and love them!:thumb:

I would leave them plugged and do some more tweaking on your setup in the spring. If you start to see pressure dips and you're still moving the motor up, you can think about scoops- I don't think you'll have a problem though. I think I had my prop 1/4 out of the water, and my pressure was GOOD. Might want to replace that impeller during the winter. :thumb:

I'd use the plugs untill you have pressure issues. I had the scoops on my 175 when I had it, they're cheap enough- but stand out a little.

Ok we will see how it goes, and yes i replace my impeller every spring and other peoples too. Guess im going to have to start charging for that.

Scoops are far superior to plugging holes. I'm altering a set to put on my Yamaha as well.

Yep I,ve had scoops on three of my outboards now, love em...I can jack my motor till the speedo quits working and still have good pressure.

I plugged my to two holes and made two new holes down further to have the same overall square inches of intake. Never had a problem with water pressure. I have seen the scoops, and I think they work great if you are going to extremes with the set-up.
