I became a member in November in order to learn a little about Checkmates. Found my first boat (Top Enticers) in Michigan on this forum and learned a bunch about what to do and what not to do. Saturday was time to be safe and have fun.

I went to Smith Mountain Lake in Southern Virginia. My wife an I with a few friends rented a home on the water, it was beautiful.

I've practiced backing up in several parking lots and I felt pretty comfortable but now I have to do it with a crowd...what pressure...trying to not look like an idiot. Side note: I did remember to put the plug in.:rof:

So I get to the ramp. I am out of the way as I put my bumpers on and removed the transom saver and I have all my gear... and I back her down in the water as smooth as could be. I'm like this is easy. I had to stop once and get out to see if I was in far enough. It wasn't floating so I backed up another foot or so. We grabbed a couple of lines and tired her up the dock and all was good.

Now its time to start her. I chocked it and turned the key like 15 times and nothing. Then it hits me...I have to pump that damn ball thingie :D We didn't have these on submarines, we had reactors. I pumped it a few times and turned they key and it fired right up after a few seconds. Ahhh the smell of 2 stoke. Love it.

Backed her off the dock and idled out of the no wake zone and then put the hammer down. I definitely have the boating bug. Man thats fun. I can tell I'm a noob though. I need to figure out the trim a little better and I need to read the water a little better but I felt good.

I had her up to 51 (gps) with four people in the boat and only turning 5k or so. That felt pretty darn fast!

Very nice. Some seat time now and you will get all of the fun stuff figured out. The launch ramp should prove to be lots of fun as you watch others, some of whom will be good at launching and retrieval, some others won't be as good at this but will be fun to watch. Still others may need help and once in a while you may find yourself running for cover.

looks like a nice time. I had follies at first. one time forgot drain plug....couldnt figure out why the boat was filling up...lol. I always put on a hose, crank and warm up, and put in plug at house now. Just to make sure it will crank up.

sharp looking boat! boat ramp, docks, and driving the boat will become old hat by the end of summer! just keep practicing! oh and enjoy the ride along the way!

These are my old Navy buddies from the sub...after boating and a few beers the stories start coming alive...

First of all thankyou for your service and our freedom we enjoy. Nice boat and setting. Big speed #s for a 115. You'll get better as time goes by not to worry. Be safe

whats the deal with the fuel fill/cap?

Ahh the fill cap...I brought the boat down to a place to finish the Fiberglass work after I made the pieces for the floor and bildge and the hose fill hose wouldn't go back on. The angle was to much. So I bought a longer piece of hose and just stuffed the cap on it to get running for the weekend. I have a cap with a 22 degree bend in it on order. That should do the trick.

Nice Looking rig I love the looks of the old inline TOWER OF POWER my family has had two 115s great motor happy boating.
