Member advice needed, What's it worth?

I hate to even offer our boat up for sale, but we have been discussing getting a boat that is a little more family friendly. We both have parents that are getting up in age and we have been discussing the idea of a....errr...deck boat or a tri-toon....(insert big sigh).
Anyways, here are the details.

1980 Entertainer, open bow
1998 Merc EFI 200, I will need to check the total hours.
23p Mazco Four blade
CMC 5.5" Hydraulic Jack plate
Twin cable NFB steering
Twin batteries with on board charger
Twin polished aluminum swim platforms
All new gauges, switches and wiring

I have completely rebuilt this boat and trailer with the best of everything. Here is the link to my thread. It was a 2 year build with the UPS driver at the house almost everyday.

Everything in it is Stainless or polish aluminum, bolts, screws, cup holders, grab handles, hinges, swim platforms, etc. It is not painted, it is gel coated. It is 5 years old now and it is starting to show signs of wear and tear. It has stress cracks in a couple of locations. It is stored outside under cover, (because it will not fit in the shop). It has been dry inside every year.

Blue book for a 1980 boat is not much, but with all the work and parts. I have no idea what it is worth. I hate to even guess what I have in this boat. I do have every receipt filed that I will add up.

I am reaching out to the experts here to see what the entire package is worth.
Any input good or bad will be greatly appreciated.

Off the top of my head I'd guess $4 - 5 K minimum if the engine's in tip-top shape (and I'd bet you've got way more than that invested).

what happened to the windshield? in my opinion it needs one, it would make a really good family boat but if I was looking to buy right now that would be the one thing that would turn me off, after all it is a bow rider...... just sayin.

Make the parents buy their own boat, so dont use that for a reason. Deck boats are no way to go with all that fiberglass. They could be faster but nothing but a big lug in the long run. Tri toons are killer if you plan on big power other than that useless.

I think I have over $20k invested building this thing. I built it exactly the way I wanted, so it will never be worth what I have in it...never. I think for anything less than $10-15k I will just let it sit and use it when I want to go fast. It's paid for.

John, windshield??? I don't need no stinking windshield. I built a pair of clear lexan windshields that did not turn out all that well. I am now thinking about putting the stock windshield back on. It will be heavily modified of course.

Big Red, I agree on all fronts. Her parents are not big boat people, so when the mother-in-law is in the boat I got to keep it under 30mph away. My parents already own their own 20ft Champion, but they are both getting to the age that I don’t know how much longer I will want them on their own.

My wife wants a deck boat I would prefer a tri-toon. I have found both in the 20ft range with 200hp ratings. The toon would be a lot more fun. My criteria is it needs to go 60mph, which is a very tall order.

The proper worth of a Checkmate is not determined by financial value. I prefer to think in terms of "Smiles Per Gallon".

I just finished adding up all th reciepts....I show have never done that. WOW!!!!! It is amazing how much money you can spend over a 2 year stretch at $200 per purchase.

I have a 275% investment to value ratio.

I will never be able to sell this boat.

the benifit is that I love this thing. Checkmate forever.

I would agree, SIM. The value comes from everyone on 2 lakes knows us because of this boat and it's flames. I have met many good people with some very fast boats because of our checkmate.

So stop looking at the receipts!!!!! You'll just hurt yourself. Remember, it's a freaking hole in the water that you pour money into.
And just for the record,if you ever added up the receipts to figure out what it costs you to sleep with your wife it would make you crazy. There's a reason they call boats "She".
As a pilot friend of mine is so fond of saying- "If it flies, floats or f***ks it's cheaper to rent ".
However,last time I checked you can't rent a Checkmate.

I've never had the nerve to add up all the receipts from rebuilding my Eluder (but I've got a pretty good idea of how big that number would be). I'd lose my ass if I ever needed to sell it, and I'm quite certain that the vast majority of people who've rebuilt basket cases are in the same boat .
