Mercury 90 Inline 6 Switch Box

Hey guys,

I'm slowly restoring my boat and lately have been turning attention to the motor. I have a question about the switch boxes. The boat was previously owned by my dad when one of the switch boxes failed. The marina he brought it to recommended that he replace both boxes at the same time. He opted to go with the aftermarket cdi switch boxes even though the mechanic warned him that he would loose 5 or more hp and a quite a bit of low end hole shot when using the aftermarket boxes vs oem quicksilver. If there is truth to this could anyone let me know, or is this an old wise tale?

Wondering if it's worth investing in some quicksilver boxes.

Thanks

Rick
