Mississippi Trip

I am heading up the Mississippi for a 4 day trip and thought I would ping you all to make sure I do not miss anything. I am looking to start in Lansing Iowa area with a goal of making Lake Pepin. I have made it up as far as Winona before but am looking to get a bit further up.

Anyone know what the boat ramp situation is like around Lansing? I have an 20O6 240zt and am a bit particular as you might expect... Not a huge boat but enough for me to question boat ramps if you know what I mean.

Also, any thing along the way that I must not miss (AKA. nice beaches, bars resturants)???

Any help would be great.

If you haven't already left for your trip....LaCross, WI is a good town to stop. The Best Western on the Black River just off the Miss river is a good place to stay and they have docks out front.

Watch for a very large pumped up beach back in kind of a cove about 4 or 5 miles south of LaCross on the Wi side. Very nice, big, high beach.

Thanks for the info. We did stay in La Crosse but ended up at the Holiday Inn downtown. Wanted to be in walking distance of all the action downtown... We ended up staying in the Muni Marina on the south side of town ($15 a night). Holiday Inn has a shuttle that will pick you up at the marina and take you back the next day.

The trip was great. We ended up going about 300 miles in total. We started in Lansing Iowa and made it up to Lake City Minnesota. Unbelievable scenery all the way up. Way too many places to stop... But we made 12 locks there and back and had pretty good luck with barge traffic. But if you ever make it up to lock and dam 5A (Winona) make sure you stop at the Dam Salon. It sits literally almost at the rollers on the downstream side of the Dam. A must stop.

We did camp just short of the entrance to Lake Pepin and I was greeted by a couple of other Checkmate Fans. Of course I had to go see theirs. Always good to talk to other Checkmate owners…

I have lots of info if you ever head up in that direction. Plus I might look you up if I ever make it up to Dubuque to boat.
