MSD 6M-2 Problem..

I took the boat out this past weekend and it was running ok on friday. It had a skip throughout the rpm range and seemed like the motor lost power and the gained power. Saturday morning I put it back in the water and it didnt want to start and stay running on the dock. I finally got it running and off the dock. It was skipping pretty good again, and it just shut off. I made sure I was getting fuel, and I was. I tested for spark and the spark was very weak. I made sure the box was getting 12 volts and it was. I jumped the green and violet wire and did what the directions said and again there was not enough spark to even start a lawnmower. Has anyone had this problem with their box before? I have the msd pro billet marine distributor and msd coil. I even tried swapping coils. So i am pretty sure it is the box. Thanks for the help!

It is my understanding that MSD boxes crap out without warning and fairly frequently. I just read a post on OSO where a guy was talking about his MSD box dying and another person responded "you must me new to MSD becuase you don't have a spare" or something to that effect. I have no experience with MSD boxes, but I do have a Crane HI-6M , that is digital, has a built in adjustable rev limiter, knock retard, and 8 different ignition curves as well as the ability to lock out the distributor straight from the box (when using TB distribuer). If you have a spare MSD box, I would change it out, and if not I would give some serious thought to the Crane box, I really like mine.

I heard the same thing... I tried a new box and it worked.
I had an MSD box, and it lasted about 1 year (in a car, normal usage.) I hear that my experience is not atypical.
Some of the other MSD stuff is pretty good and reliable (distributors, coils, etc.), but I will never buy another 'box' from them ever again.
