My 251 Convincor has a nose cone. Should I remove it?

Previous owner put some kind of a nose cone on my Bravo 1 outdrive. It looks like its permanent, but i'm sure I could get it off some how. Is it hurting my performance? I've never driven without it so I don't know. The boat runs 70-72mph now with a light load. It handles bad with a heavy load, like 4 adults and 4 kids and 2 coolers, maybe 1100-1200lbs of people and stuff. It leans and doesn't take trim well at all with a heavy load. Is it going to hurt my performance if I remove the cone?

Normally, you won't see any benefit from a nosecone until you are running 80+. Then it varies boat to boat. If you dont have plans to upgrade power, I would borrow a non-nosecone lower and see if the problems go away. Then you will know whats goiung on. Nosecones are cheap, thats why a lot of them get put on boats that don't need them, unknowing owners hoping for more speed on the cheap.

yes, need to remove, like said before if under 80+ they hurt more than they help, most are epoxed on and smoothed...Rob

nose cones

I removed mine on my 17' Panther (same hull as the Checkmate V-mate 2) and went from 78 to 81 mph, no blowout with any amount of trim and the boat has more bowlift and carries a load much better.I do not believe the magic number is 80 mph anymore after trying this.
