My first checkmate

I got a 79 20ft checkmate entertainer.Ive had a few boats, but none that has this style.I picked up for fair price. It has 305 omc.Bottom of boat shines good, top needs sanded, buffed.Interior needs redone.I really need some tips on bringing the gel coat back out.I hit spot with some 3m,but think it may need wetsanded.I want to redo whole boat, and eventually put 350 in it.

Ive been looking at alot of threads on here, and gotta say you guys dedicated to your boats.Ill be doing all the work on my boat unless its machine work.payed 400 for the boat.plan on putting 1,600 at most to make look good.maybe you guys can steer me in the right direction for fabric, and carpet.

looking forward to restoring, and will post pictures when i figure out how.

Sounds like you got a decent buy congrats on the purchase!
we love pictures!
I'd get it running and see what she does Iefore planning a motor...
Watch out for that omc drive. I don't know how much power they can handle but I know my buddy broke a few with a 280 hp crate motor so don't plan on making a huge amount of power without a drive upgrade. Who knows it may surprise you the way it is.
Good luck and watch out before you know it these guys will have your spending everything you have to get it to go 80! I know it sure happened to me!:D

I believe these drives are pretty strong.just hard to work on.I havent hit water yet.still got alot to do on motor, and need to put tilt clutch back on drive.hopefully ill be ready to test in may.

:welcome:Welcome to the forum. Sounds like got a great deal on something you can work with and get the personal satisfaction of making her your own. You're definitely in the right place for good advise. There's lots of years experience on here and people who know how to do things the right way. So don't be afraid to ask for suggestions and help. I'm sure someone will come along and give you a screen shot of how to post pictures. Best of luck with your new found love and looking forward to seeing those pictures.:thumb:Jim
