Thanks for the comments. Its got a 3 cyl 65 hp Merc on the back. I had to take the decals off cause' I am only supposed to drive up to a 40. I may put an 85 merc on there, but I want to get some experience before hand.

MX, what kind of speed do you get with the 65?

I have a 1987 Merc 60 with PT on my old runabout and I get about 39 on a good day. The boat is an old SS 140 Grew with a full roof etc. it's our "all season" boat that we use when it's raining or the weather is crappy.

Thanks again for all your comments. To answer your question Chris, i get about 45 mph out of it. Im sure there is a lot more mph there, i just need to jack the motor up a bit, and get something better then my 13 pitch aluminum prop on there

Looks great? did you paint it white or was it already that color? I have a '73 mx-15 and I love it, it has a johnson 135 on it and tops out at 50 on GPS. Mine sure takes a beating on rough water, in fact the deck and the hull keep loosening up on the left side and it worries me. what year is yours?

hobbies this expensive and addictive should be illeagle

supergenius, welcome to the board. With a little testing you should be able to go a bunch faster.

Supergenius, mine also takes a beating in rough water, so I just don't push it as hard when its rough out. I painted it white, it originaly was a green medal flake. When I was doing my prep work to paint it, I went through three different colours of paint. The bottom is black anti-foul paint cause I leave it in the water for the whole summer. As for the year, your guess is as good as mine. I think early 70's, since I have been told that in 74' checkmate had a fire and the mx-13 mold was destroyed. BTW, if you don't have t&t on that motor, get it.
