My view of the 2400 brx

Several have im me about what i think of our new 2400 brx and all i can say is WOW. We have already put 30 hours on it since we picked it up last October from Seelye Wright. We boat on Lake of the Ozarks towards the upper end and i have always owned cats until now. The brx handles the 3 ft rollers we normally run in like a champ. My wife even notices the easy landing it has compared to our 25 foot eliminator. So far no problems with the boat at all. It is powered by a 300xs which is also new to having an outboard. Right now we run around at 40 mph during the day and average 6 mpg which is a blessing to us after only averaging 2.5 in the cats. She loves all the room, there are no rattles, everything is solid no complaints and the craftmanship is outstanding. I havent had a chance to do to much to it we added a stereo system, and had a custom bimini top made for it, and i am getting ready to prop test and play with the engine height (if anyone can give me suggestions on engine height would be much appreciated) With the 2 of us and 1/4 tank of fuel we hit 71 last weekend. Im not sure that is all she has or with prop change and engine height change can squeeze some more out of it. That is the only disappointment i have but im coming from having boats in the 90 to 110 mph boats so i knew that goin in i was going to go slower but the boat is very stable at wot.

Overall i give the BRX 2400 a A+ we could not be happier, as soon as we get both boys out of college she told me i could go bigger and faster so have eyes on a checkmate with twin outboards on it. Im a checkmate owner for life now.

Well said!

Prop height: depends on blade count and setback!

With 0 setback and a 3-Blade, she is probably good at about 4- 4 3/4" below.

With 15" of setback and a 4-Blade, she is good at 3 - 3.5 (maybe 3.75" below).

That's the range based on my experience and the input from most on here, including Wildman. Also, going higher than that gives up bow lift and scrubs off speed.

It is set back 15 and has a 4 blade on it. Are you measuring from the bottom of the boat to center of shaft i would assume. also has anyone tried other props and sizes kind of give me a starting point. Thanks in advance.

@ 15" of setback, it's 3-3.5" (prop centerline below bottom) with a 4-blade Trophy, based on the input of others.

John, thanks for taking the time to share the review. As a fellow Ozark-Checkmater (31 mm) I'm happy to hear about pride and performance in the product. Have you used it at all for towables (ski, tube, wakeboard)? I'm curious as to how the hole-shot is and how well it holds a towing speed.

We havent towed anything yet that will be probably memorial day weekend when the boys come down and they are bringing friends so we should get a good shake down on the towing aspect of it. We are at the 55mm on the lake and come down your way quite often either fish and company, larrys on the water or captain rons. Look us up this summer ill even buy the first round

Do you have the ring installed on the prop to keep the exhaust from going over the hub?

If not I am shocked you are getting that economy from the 4 blade. Mine was much better on the tempest but the holeshot and top end was best on the trophy.

right now i have a masco 26 labbed prop on it done by hill performance out of california my bravo 1 prop that was on it when i got it was stolen off it the second weekend i had it so i never really was able to get any good readings with it due to break in period. i had the masco which is a out board prop as a spare i ran on the eliminator when i knew we would have a boat load and pull tubers with it.

as far as fuel im just goin off the smart craft readings never really set down and figured it all out but figured it had to be pretty close, said i was using 6.8 gallons an hour at 40 mph average.

I would assume i dont have a ring i have never put one in but after reading on it i ordered one today. Also looking into DBS 1.1 ecu reprogramming or Simon Motorsport 335 kit

Im really new and not very smart with outboards its a whole new animal im trying to learn but am really digging it so far, Im a gear head and always messing with 600 to 900hp car motors so i cant leave anything alone lol. All info and help is really appreciated

I am with you there, I never leave anything alone.

I was at 9.9-10.2gph at 40 GPS 8.6 at 35 on the tempest but 13.6 at 40 on the trophy with large pvs and no ring installed. I was on break in but I wouldn't expect they add that much fuel.

I may try a ring on the trophy or no pvs vents in the tempest this weekend. I am worried the ring may block too much exhaust flow on the 300 and choke power. The tempest was a dog out of the hole compared to the trophy which is why I want to try no pvs plugs

I agree though this thing needs a good 350hp to make up for the size and bow rider.

Sadly, a 350 HP 4-stroke might match the performance of the 300XS. :irked:, and the days of the 2-stroke are numbered. :(

I meant a modded 2 stroke 300 to keep the weight down. Curious as to why shaving the heads isn't done on these. I personally would be ok running 93 all of the time.

Well tested some yesterday, found a 3 blade tempest 25P to try, With my 4 blade by myself 1/2 tank of fuel went 71 boat was real stable. I switched to the tempest and went 74 but the boat got a pretty bad chime walk someting im not used to or felt before so might be something i was doing. The trim was the same with both passes, I measured the motor and it is 3.75 down. Is the chime walk just part of the boat or do i need to adjust engine height or is that just the 3 blade having more lift. (I know my wife will completely freak out if she felt that lol) so i need to settle boat down some at wot.

Is there any other props you guys might suggest goin to try more this weekend, I found a guy that said i can try anything he has and am i better to stay with a 3 blade or the 4 blade.

I am wanting to find a happy medium of speed and performance to pull tubers and skiers which will found out how that goes this weekend

My Tempest Plus was tried at 3.5, 3.75 and 4" below and it likes to chine walk above 66-67, no matter what I do. Also, at 4" below, low-speed porpoising up to 35 MPH is common with even slightest trim.

I don't get glass flat water, so chine walking is not an option for me. Chine walk in chop is crazy There is no way I am gonna walk it from 68-70+. Maybe on some rare morning or evening when the water lays down and no one is around. :eyecrazy:. Chine walking is just ''interesting'' on flat water.

If the Trophy has a lower theortetical speed, its higher practical speed might be better. Certainly, with 4 blades, it's the better towing/watersports prop.

I was wondering if anyone ever tried a Bravo prop, if that is even possible? I think the diameter issues change how to step down in pitch.

What was your rpm? Are you using an actual GPS to get your mph? for me the trophy has been faster than the tempest.

I would also double check your mpg reading. You mentioned 6.8 at 40 if I recall and that is far from what anyone else I know has reported. 10-11 is more in the ballpark.

I think you will like the trophy. I was at 68 with 4 adults and a healthy fuel load. I don't exactly know how much fuel because the gas gauge just flat out sucks.

I didn't get to do a top speed no load with the trophy with the ring but for normal cruising the trophy with the ring and 2 large pvs and 2 out was the best.

That's 10-11 GPH (gallons per hour).

At 40-44 MPH+, I am at like 10.2 GPH. So, that's just a little over 4 MPG, which is pretty darn good for running at 40+ !

At 63 gallons, that's over 252 cruising miles @ 40-44 MPH! :surf:

Oh, and I am at 9 hours for engine time, so it is my understanding that extra oil is still being pumped. That 4 MPG should go up a little. People see anywhere from 4-6 MPG depending on the boat, etc.
