Need headers for 460 Cobra

I was wondering who makes a good ceramic or stainless header for my 94 persuader with a 460 cobra. It has through the hull exaust. Will the headers hook into the stock stainless tips I have now, or do I have to get some kind of a adapter. The tips I have or factory checkmate ones. Also how much extra HORSEPOWER & SPEED can I expect. Thanks for the HELP!!!

Keith...
you are VERY limited in your choices...

Lightning makes true water jacketed header for the 460... About $1500-1700 in powercoated black.

There is also "exhaust adapters" that will allow you to bolt up any Chevy big block exhaust to your Ford... about $200-300 and gives you loads of options for choices.

Finally, Blue Thunder makes aluminum 460 performance heads that are cast with the chevy exhaust ports and pattern on them for use with any chevy big block style manifold...about $2000.

The bad part is that you will probably EXPLODE the King Cobra drive with more power... They are kind of MAXED from the factory with the stock 460/365hp motor!

Hope this helps,

Thanks Jim, for the small power gain, I guess it's not worth it. I keep hearing how weak the Cobra dive is, so far it's been great but after hearing this Im getting a litte worried! Do they make a stronger outdrive for my 460 besides the one I have, that will bolt up, or am I just going to have to keep my fingers crossed. Plus I heard parts are hard to get for the Cobra outdrive.

You'd have to check on doing a bravo swap... I have no experience about the transom cut and pattern compatibility between the two brands on that swap...

But sounds like $5000-$8000 in outdrive parts to swap it over (plus your labor & time) may be better to sell your boat as-is and buy one with a bravo set-up in it already???

She's only got 213 hrs on her, and is in mint condition! So Ill just have to grit my teeth when I hit that 70 mph mark,I was hoping for a little more with headers, but I guess that will just have to do.

Those were the "adapters" I mentioned eariler... they work well, but you still need to add the cost of a performance manifold or header to that price!

A quick and easy "bolt-on" for better exhaust flow for you would be to get a set of Gil (or similar brand) tubular Stainless Steel risers to replace your restrictive cast iron "chokers".

The cast original are only 2.5" ID inside and use a 4" exhaust hose. The Gil Stailess ones have a full 3" ID for the exhaust and 4" for the hose still. They flow WAY BETTER!!!!

Stock risers... 2.5" ID area = 4.90625 sq. in.
Stainless Steel risers... 3.0" ID area = 7.065 sq. in.

Check out the difference in area alone...a 69% improvement over stock in being able to let the exhaust FLOW (not to mention the flow improvements over the stock elbow design)!

A set of these will be in the $500-$800 range and no adapters are needed!!! Best "bang" for your buck....
