Need some prop advise?????

I put a 22p chopper on my predictor and took it out on sunday and no matter were i put the plate i have to pedal it like crazy to get it out of the hole( runnin it to 5500 and pedal in it), but the top end is nice. I can tell it has to low of a pitch because it burries my tach @ 6000 and it still has throttle to go and i don't wanna run the little 2L that hard. Also it feels like an out of round tire on a car when im runnin it, is that normal because it is a surface runnin prop or is somethin screwed up??????
Anyone runnin these got any advise or any sugestions for other props to try?

What engine do you have?
I have a 115 Johnson with a 21P the pulls slowly out of the whole but runs too high rpms at wot also.

Its a 150 hp merc 79 2.0L, but i have to punch it to 5000 to 5500 and pedal it back from there to get it on plane.

When I had my MX-13, 15, and Hydrostream Viper they all had they issues w/ Choppers.( and even the old 2 blades) Try trimming all the way down and putting the boat into a gradual LH turn as you try to come on plane. You will actually hear when the prop "bites" as the rpms will drop. When we used to come on to the race course sometimes and we had a VERY difficult time getting the highest pitch possible hooking up and so we would line so that we could make a quick LH turn and then back off and then ease off to accelerate on into the first turn and do a few practice laps. Your 150 will run all day long at 6200. ( If it's been taken care of...I don't want you go out and burn down an engine ) But... It's a strong engine!! Good old Screamin' Silo!!

I have an I/O (eluder with 3.7l, 170hp 4cyl) that came with a 23p choppper. I am haveing the same problems.
I will not come on plane unless I trim the motor ALL the way down. It also feels very 'rough'...lots of vibration. I have decide that I just don't like it. But I am not sure what to replace it with.

Had the same problem when I was trying props. Tried a few different choppers and all of them where a pain to get out of the hole. Ran great on top, but never liked the hole shot.

A Chopper is a one trick pony for top end. Only on the occasional setup do they do well out of the hole. Get yourself a 4 Blade over/through prop and you'll never go back. Trophy, TRO4, HP4, Renegade, Cyclone...

SORRY I HAVENT BEEN ON HERE IN A WHILE(LOTS OF STUPID BULL SH** GOIN ON).
THAT CHOPPER HAS A LOT OF VIBRATION AND I DON'T CARE FOR IT. HOWEVER WHEN I PUT THE 22P STOCK ALUM PROP BACK ON THE MOTOR BOGGED DOWN LIKE THE IGN WONT ADVANCE? BUT IF I TRIM IT DOWN AND JACK THE PLATE ALL THE WAY UP IT WILL SLOWLY COME OUT OF THE WHOLE. WILL A 4 BLADE COST ME ANY IN THE TOP END? AND WHERE DO I START IN PITCH, MAYBEE 22 THEN GO FROM THERE?

It almost sounds like you have something else going on. My 115 pushes my predictor out of whole very well with a 21P. I even tried a 23P once and it still got on plan fairly well.
I think with you v6 150 you should get up with a 22P with no problem.

My guess is your 22" aluminum is non-vented and that is why it is not spooling up quickly. A 2L 150 needs a little ventilation on higher pitch props. What RPM do you get at WOT?
With the right 4 blade you will lose only 1-2 MPH on a chopper but it will do evertything else better.
I have a 22" Lifter HP4 which I assume is a copy of a Mazco HP4. http://www.superiortrolling.co....html
It is a great prop in very good condition but it is too much for my V4 Yamaha. I was told when I bought it that it was a 13" diameter for a V4. It is 14" for a V6. I still got 55 MPH at 5200 RPM so it is a fast prop, but I need to turn more revs. It would be ideal for a 150 V6.
I have another Mate owner trying it this week but if he doesn't buy it I'll sell it for $200TYD.

I will let you know, i probably won't be doin anything right now cuz i got a lot of other stuff i need to get done before i can start playin.
But I still turn 5500 @wot. Thats the prop that was on it before i put my plate on and it took of great.just gettin out of the hole sux, unless i raise the plate all of the way up the motor bogs down like the ign wont advance. so i need somethin that will let the motor spool up but grab enough to get it out of the hole.

wark, when you go to a chopper style prop you alway have to go up in pitch. all the exhaus lets the prop spin. if you have a larger pitch you wont break it loose as easily. as for the alum. prop its like mark said. there is not enough ventilation for it to break loose and spin.

try a laser II in a 21 or 22P you can find them with vents on the hub.

illmatic,
if i go up in pitch from the 22 to a 24 or a 26 will that help my hole shot? or is a chopper strickly for top end.
What kinda set up r u runnin on your predictor?

well it sounds like the chopper is spinning too high upon take off due to all the exhaust around the prop and the through hub prop is not getting enough exhaust to spool up.

i would try a 24 or 26P chopper if you stay with that style. if you go with a through hub you want to make sure the prop has the ventilation holes in it. im sure you could run a 22 or 24 laserII .

i have had great luck with my 26P laserII. TheNerd runs the same motor as you on a v-mate II. he has a 19 laserII and it takes off like a rocket. im looking for a 24 for him to try.
