New Guy, Old Boat

Hello everyone, what a great site for a Checkmate newbie. I've owned a few performance boats, last was a Donzi 18 Classic that I completly rebuilt. I'm a gluton for punishment....Just picked up a 1978 20'er that I intend to completely rebuild. The boat will be rigged with a Mercury Racing 200, all new steering / harness / dash ect. Its in kit form right now. Admittedly I bought the boat because of the cool lines / style and don't know much about it, of course I know the Checkmate name, now I are one. Can anyone give me an idea of the model name, and any negatives the boat might have, handleing as well as construction. I've got it primered, and haven't decided on paint yet, so if you'all don't mind, I'll be stealing some ideas from the awsome boats on the site. Once again hi, and thanks in advance for the help and advice. :thumb:

Hi, Fort Lauderdale, any idea what hull I might have. I think its a "predictor", but I haven't found a 20'er in any of my serches. Is it possible to post a picture?

Not sure whether there was an Enchanter or Entertainer until 79. In 78 I know there was a Ski Mate II "V" and a Trimate III "V" both of which were advertised at 19' 3".

The Ski Mate or Enchanter would be a closed bow and the Trimate and Entertainer would be an open bow.

Do you have any pics?

The older models (SkiMate and Trimate) had a one piece windshield that slightly curved around each side.

The Enchanters and Entertainers had a multiple piece windshield (4 flat pieces) in separate frames. The front was split down the middle and the sides were individual triangular pieces.

Of course the open bows had a gap in the middle to walk through.....

Bullittben, thats the one, minus the windsheild, which I'll be looking for soon. Is it a 20' or 21'? I suppose I could measure it, I'm going by the title, which could be wrong. Any negatives in construction or handleing?

Those are 20'ers. I don't personally know anything about them, but I think they're great hulls. Not quite the speed hull that an 80's Starflight (these had a stepped hull and a notch in the transom with a pad) would be, but a solid performer in general.

Can you suggest a source for a wind screen, I'm good with glass / paint, but don't want to fabricate everything.

If you list the Hull ID number, someone can tell you exactly what you have. Get involved with the Jupiter Hot Boat Club. We are having an event on
April 27th and will be meeting at Burt Reynolds Park at 10:00am. If you check Scream and Fly, you'll find our posts for the event and lots of other Hot boaters in the area.
