Yes this was on Craigslist, Texas Can Academy auctions was selling it. When i saw the boat and the original titles I knew this was the boat for me. :)
Cant wait to get it on the water, once I get it all set up we should get together on a lake somewhere.

I got it registered today and found a drain plug, now I need to replace the trailer light plug and safety chains with some that are long enough, and get a plate for the trailer. I plan on a test run this weekend just to make sure it runs out okay. Already found a 6" jackplate just calling my name, but that will probably wait until the real winter hits Texas. Its hard to hold back my excitement  its like that first present on Christmas morning when I was a kid. (still a kid just bigger toys)

:poke: you may want to use a portable fuel tank for your test run,

the best part about being in texas is that if it is a light winter we can boat into December or beyond. also with an outboard it is easier to do so. :bounce:

Once I get the trailer tagged I am going to bring it home and run it for a few minutes off the hose to make sure everything is working as it should be. Will also drain the fuel tank and make sure there is no gunk in it. Picked up a new drain plug, safety chains, trailer light plug, anchor and rope on my way home will have all of that finished tomorrow at work.
Yes Texas is great can ride my dirt bike just about year and now I hope to enjoy my boat almost as much.

Well I got the trailer wired and lights working. Brought the boat home cleaned out the gas tank and put some fresh mix in it. Using muffs I fired it up. Good stream of water coming through the pee hole. I didnt let it run long just a couple of minutes to make sure i didnt hear anything strange and that the water pump work. Seemed like it was idling a little high to me 1200rpm's per the tach. I am trying to find out what it should be right now. I did get a short video

Took it out on Lake Worth today

Finally found some time and took the boat out after work. It runs great pulls out of the hole great, and planes fast. We cruised around a little just to make sure everything was working then decided to see what it could do.With my friend Kurt( about 320lbs) his son about 100 lbs and myself another 205 lbs and almost full tank of gas we hit 50-51 on GPS(boat speedo read 45). My wife and grand daughter met us after the first run and we still hit 45 on GPS. The boat drives amazing, will take me a few trips to get the trim down. Discovered the Fuel gage works off and on, if I tap it, so I have a loose wire in the dash. Same with the trim gauge at first but it stayed on the 2nd half of the trip out. Boat didn't take on any water, when I pulled the drain plug it was dry,
Shot a couple videos while we were out there.

That is awesome. A good boat and it was sold for a good cause!! wish I had that luck when it comes to boats I always end up with ones that need work.

Yup, that's a Mate.....

Welcome to forum {I'm a little late with the welcome:(}

I love that old school flake --- one of the things Checkmate is known for is the kool flakes they used in those days.

I've been boating for the better part of the last 45 years but I purchased my first Mate last year, and I am still in awe with how the Checkmate hulls perform --- great hole shots / quick planning / hulls that can almost fly like an airplane and still be controllable ---- another kool thing about Mates, they sure get attention, especially the redone older models.

You have a beautiful boat there, take good care of her and she will impress the hell of ya.
Enjoy and fly safe :thumb:

Thank you. I fell in love with it when I saw it, but I was so worried about buying a used boat. After my test run yesterday most of my worries are gone. I do like the flake and If/when I repaint it will be with flake to keep that old school style. This being my first boat I want it to last. I know I need to do some more work on the trailer, new rollers and winch rope, then some updates on the boat interior.
My biggest fear was my wife hating it, but she loved the way it road so smooth on the water.
By the way I really like the paint scheme on your Mate, looks like a fun boat. Is that a usable cuddy I see?
