Thanks for allowing me to join this forum. I'm 29 years old I work part time ems and va olunteer firefighter and run my on automotive repair and restoration buisness.im new to boat. I picked up a nice 1979 checkmate Exciter this past weekend. Trying to get it running now I've got it to run for a few seconds but it won't holds it's prime on the fuel pump. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys

outboard (motor hanging off the transom (back of the boat)) or inboard outboard (motor inside the boat, and drive is through the transom)

It's an outboard 115 Evinrude 1974 model motor. Trys it's best to run and may run for 2 or 3 seconds at a time but won't hold it's prime at the fuel pump

Try installing a new fuel inlet hose and primer bulb. Buy a good quality one and make sure to use good quality clamps on the ends of the hose. Your local outboard marine dealer should be able to recommend the hose with the primer bulb and clamps for you.

Good luck!

Did the previous owner happen to mention when it was run last or how long it had been stored since it was run last?
