Hello, I'm new to this forum, I have been reading (and mesmerized) by outlaws restoration of his 78 convincer, I just became the proud owner of a 78 convincer myself. I'm currently installing the engine that I did not remove. I'll probably wear the experts out on the engine questions as this is my first checkmate and my first inboard, although I have a very nice 79 Baja that I restored with my sons, ages 15 and 17.

Depending on where u are in WV I'd be glad to help you with the getting that engine back in, I've pulled and reinstalledseveral inboards and it's pretty simple once you get familiar with it.

I'm in Fraziers bottom, I have the engine in, I wanted to get it in and use the boat the rest of this summer then I'll put it back in the garage and start on the tear down and repairs. The interior is in rough shape after a winter in the weather and it looks like it has been cleared with automotive clear coat sometime in the past as it's peeling all over the top above the rub rail. I'll get some pictures amd post soon. I have one bracket that I cant identify where it goes and I can not figure out whats supposed to be supporting the power steering cooler. The elusive bracket wont/ doesn't seem to fit anywhere neer the cooler. I didn't get the origonal point distributor so I'm installing a HEI unit. I have not located oil sending unit wire yet, looks like I'll have to power up the system and use a test light on the harness to locate the wire to the oil pressure gauge. One more afternoon and I should have it river-worthy. Then out comes the beach towels to cover the ratty seats and away we go !
