New Member, Long Time Boater, About to Buy an Exciter or Similar

Hi All,

I've been boating my entire life, over 40 years. When I was a kid there were a couple checkmates that ruled the bay, and I still think about those boats to this day.

This is the summer I add a small fast boat to the collection. I've been looking at Streams, Lasers, etc., but I think I want the option to turn, and to carry passengers.

I found a local Exciter with a 225 Venom and a jack plate that is supposed to be pretty solid, well sorted and quick.

Is there anything in particular you'd look out for on an 88 Exciter?

Anyone have any general thoughts and input on the Exciter vs. other similar models?

Welcome to the forums, Dan!

I do not know much about Exciters, but I would ensure the hull is in good shape and not cracked in the transom, especially since the boat is a 1988 model. I have an 82 Sportfire, and it needed its transom rebuilt after 20 years of good use. This is always an important thing that some people overlook when getting a boat.
