New outboards are heavy!!!

Reading about the new Verado 4-stroke outboards on Scream and Fly is GREAT news for the future of Checkmate outboard models!

The 135-175 horse Verado 4 cylinders are over 500 pounds, and the 6 cylinder Verados are almost 700 pounds!

Since 'our' boats are built heavier than the 'other' hot boat brands, we'll be able to take advantage of the future outboard weights, while the light weight paper thin boats (Allison, STV, etc) will have to make do with older and older re-built old style 2-strokes.

Heavier outboards to us means less setback and better bow-lift! The new 'green' outboard weights are gonna kill the small light weight performance boats. Even the new DFI 2-Strokes are heavy.

I think the new technologies will be superior over time. I don't know about the cowls though.....

You die-hard MERC guys may have to broaden your horizons on motor choices, YAMAHAs 300 VMAX hpdi weighs in at 539lb. If you want to look at 4 strokes the F250 is 592lb. the 4 strokes carry a CARB three-star rating and the VMAX have a two-star rating.
I was quoted a price of $16500 for 225 VMAX and $14000 for a 200 withought any weeling and dealing.
 
Johnson 2 stroke 175 383 lbs and get it worked you will be up to 400 lbs put a raker ss prop and lighten your boat i shaved about 200 lbs by the time i was finshed .. It sucks because you void your warrenty look for a blown up old 200 merc and do a rebuild on that puppy and your 200 will become a 250 Oasis marine gave me that idea and still keep some weight off
 
I'm not sold that weight is good for Checkmates or any other performance boat.I understand bow lift is vital to the Mates but, I always felt that the batteries to run my sound system and the fuel altogether gave it the weight to accomplish the lift, not to mention proping and setback being factors. I also heard that the four strokes arn't total Green Peace machines. I just think its to early to jump on the 4stroke train just yet.
 
A 4 stroke is like a fat girl fun to ride but you don't want your friends to see you with one...
