The gray is for the tach, the black is a ground output for your tach and other things. The brown was used to connect to a hi temp alarm which is not used with that set up. However you could pick up the brown wire back at the motor and hook it up to a temp sending unit in the head, then use the brown at the ignition end for a temp gauge. The purple wire should be a hot wire when the ignition is on. You could use that for a number of items ..tach, fuel gauge and volt meter.
