New to Checkmate from Miami

Check2k

New member
Hello Guys,
This is my first checkmate but third offshore boat. I purchased a 2000 251 classic last October. I was wondering that I might have the last 251 ever built. I've done searches on this hull and I've seen 1998's and 1999's but no 2000's? Maybe mine was built in late 99 and titled as a 2000? I don't know? Anyways I purchased this boat with a bad engine and still have not seen the water with it yet but I should be ready in about a month or so. Any other 251 owners with any advice on these hulls?

Welcome to the forum! Im sure that there are several 251 owners that will be more than happy to pitch in any info that you seek!

:welcome:

I've got a 251 along with a few dozen others on here if you have any questions. Post up some pictures when you get a chance.

Im also a 251 owner, looking forward to seeing some pics.
Before and after of the new motor installation would be very cool.
WELCOME.

Thanks guys, I'm still putting this boat together. Built a nice 468 for it. I'm also redoing the wiring, complete clarion sound system, and I'm also going to re powder coat the aluminum swim platform. What's the easiest way to upload pics from mobile devices to this forum? My desktop is out of commission for a couple weeks due home improvements, and can't figure out how to upload pics. Any help would be appreciated.

the easiest way is through photobucket. get your pics there and then copy and paste them into the "reply" box here

Check2k, boat looks excellent, totally worth the time and money installing
new engine. Did you buy new or used or rebuilding the engine that was
in it. And hows it comin along.

Thanks wrenchmate. Used the 454 block and built it up from there. Mild performance upgrades. Engine is balanced and professionally assembled. I'm hoping for around 400ish hp to the prop. What speeds should I be looking at and around what size prop would be suffice? Engine is in boat but I'm modifying the wiring harness for a cleaner look. Still have not started her up. I've read that there are porpoising issues with this hull. Any solutions? Ill try to get some more pics up this weekend.

welcome ! nice looking boat ! had a 251 for several years..ran 4 different engine combo's...you should see around 70 I would think...is that a galley boat ? they are 400lbs more and thus a little slower..will run the fastest with a mirage+ prop, but a bravo 1 is all around better prop...just 1-2 mph slower in testing I did..good luck Rob

I think you might be getting ahead of yourself regarding the porpoising issue since you haven't had it in the water. Some have reported more problems then others. The general consensus on running is keep the drive tucked until about 40mph, after that you can trim to your hearts content and let the big dog eat. Stock I know a lot of guys run Bravo I 24P. One of the best props (again for a stock motor) is the mirage 23P. The bravo runs 1-2 mph slower but helps the porpoise issue. It's my understanding these boats like bow lift props. I bought my boat last year and I found that once you find the right level for the trim tabs, and just keep them there the boat doesn't porpoise much. Mine and many others ended up with the tabs level with the hull. Othere than that it's really been all about drive time and getting to know the boat. Hope this helps.
