New to me 86 Exciter

I would take that Hydrofoil and toss it in the garbage, get a CMC power lift jack plate and play with a handfull of props. Does any one use VHF radios?? What about your cell phone?? Use a GPS that mounts on the dash. Just my opinion.

I have been looking on and off for the past two years, but never pulled the trigger. I kept an eye on this forum, ebay, craigslist etc... I found this particular boat in several locations, but ultimately bought it on ebay. I live in southern NJ near Philadelphia, Moorestown to be exact. Next year I would like to meet up with fellow forum members and do some group runs!
Your from my area a bit. I lived in the Egg Harbor Township/Northfield area till about 6 years ago. Die hard Eagles fan!!!;)

There are a bunch of guys out there with Mates.... You shouldnt have a problem meeting a few.

I asked about the hydrofoil in the start of this thread. Someone said it helps them get on plane and offers added stability. Based on those comments, my plan was to keep it on for a few runs, then take it off and judge for myself. I was thinking about installing a jack plate this winter, or next when I repower.

I won't be doing much, if any, boating on lakes. Most of my runs will be on the Delaware Bay, with a few in Barengat Bay. The primary way of communication in these areas is by VHF. I would rather have the ability to put out a distress call and have all boats in the area hear it then only be able to call 911 from my cell. As far as the GPS, I was thinking about a handheld but figured if I install the panel mentioned, I could just get a hardwired unit and flush mount that too.

I agree with not cutting into the dash on that boat. That would be a :shakehead: The center panel might not look toooooo bad (minimalist here). I you were to do it, I would router some curves into the wood so it's not square or rectangular.
