hey everyone,
just bought my first checkmate. it is a project boat was told it was 22' long and has a 330 hp mercruiser with bravo 1 drive. i'm not sure what the modle name is for the boat is their any way to tell by the vin number. it has a plate on the dash that says it was custom built but that is all you can read. if anyone has any advice thanks.

Welcome aboard Chops.

Depending on the year, typically the last few digits of the HIN indicate the year.

To find that you'll have to look on the rear of the transom on the right side usually below the rub rail.

If you figure out the year, you can have a look in the gallery and you should be able to figure out the model. :)

Welcome Chops...

Get the year off the HIN, it should be the last 2 digits. The HIN will be below the rail on the right rear of the hull embossed into the gelcoat, usually unpainted. Then cruise around the galleries and other pictures on the site to find models that look like yours and then definately get some pictures to post, we love pictures. I don't think you will find a model name reference on most Checkmates, my Pulse doesn't have any model designations anywhere on it. I am a swabbie on other models of Checkmates but there are the most experienced people in the world on Checkmates on this site and they will be glad to help advise you. Your boat being 22' with a 330 should narrow down the search quite a bit, the year will be the key. When you enjoy the site enough then become a supporting member to keep this site going.

Welcome aboard.

Congradulations on your boat. You have come to the right place. The advice, pics and friendship on the forum is top notch. You can learn alot here.

IT,S A VISION

CRUISED AROUND AND LOOKED AT A LOT OF PICS. FOUND OUT IT'S A VISION. GOT A LOT OF WORK AHEAD OF ME, SENT THE MOTOR OUT FOR REBUILD ON FRI. STSRTED WORKING ON THE OXIDATION ON THE HULL THIS WEEKEND. USING A PRODUCT CALLED POLI GLOW AND THIS STUFF WORKS LIKE A CHAMP. HAS MADE THE WORST SPOTS I'VE DONE LOOK 1,000 PERCENT BETTER. ANYONE ELSE TREID THIS STUFF?
DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE I CAN GET A NEW HANDLE/LATCH THAT FITS THE CUTOUT IN THE ENGINE COVER?

Chops,

Depending on that latch, you could try over someplace like Overtons.com or even Cabelas online. Most latches and hardware are standard.
