Hello
first I'd like to say thanks for the site I'm enjoying it very much.
Now for my question, does anyone know where I can get a transom plate for a 79 predictor. mine is rusted badly its not stainless like others I've seen. And I would also like to know if there would be any advantage to me adding a jack plate or set back with only a stock 90hp merc
 
You should be able to get a new transom plate made at any metal fab shop. They could make it out of what ever you want. Or you could have yours sand blasted and repainted. I had one made of 3/16" aluminum, pretty solid and wont rust.

Thanks for the reply, fab shop it is. How about the jack plate or set back is there any benefit w/ only 90hp merc
 
I agree. Grab that cheap setback and get a 1/8" SS or 3/16" aluminum plate made. While you're at it, have a pair of smaller plates made for the inside of the transom also, for the top and bottom bolts. Spread that weight around some.

try and work up a price on one with a shop I do business with.

Where are you located I am in the Portland Or I have access to a break and aluminum stock.contact me I also have a good steel one if you want or could make on and ship if not to far.:bigthumb:
 
I had one made at a shop when I rigged my predictor...think it was a little over 100 bucks.

Thanks for the props fiftyp and JW. I keep hearing I'm selling my extension plate cheap, but I still have it. Guess it's only been 1 day though. It is nice Predictor16 if these Preditor Guru's think it's the right amount of setback for you (9").

Hey, Greast East Predictor, What's up with the hull fittings for your rigging hoses. OEM Merc? Something else you came up with??? I'm on that path right now...
 
Seeing that one Great East Predictor had made is what gave me the idea. If you are going to add a jackplate or a set back plate you may need to modify the shape of the stock one. You will notice on mine, hidden in the dirty finger prints is a weld about 4 inches up from the bottom. I had it made the same as the stock, then held the jack plate up and realized it was to short. :brickwall:

what will the set back of 9" do for performance.

Mate16, I added a CMC 5.5inch plate to my 1980 Enticer with a 90 hp Black motor and it brought the boat to life. It was the most bang for the buck improvement that I made. I just sold the Enticer this last weekend and now I'm gonna put the same type plate on my Sportfire.

I believe they were just oem merc ones...I can find out for sure tonight.

Cool, thanks. I'm REALLy having a time trying to locate cowl fittings for my '89.

Is the cmc plate a jack as well as 5.5 set back, I'm just making sure I get the concept.

Mate16. The plate Enticer1 is speaking of is adjustable up and down and has a 5.5" setback from the transom.
 
Ok Thanks Jallen, I'm assuming that the hydralic plate is best way to go so you can adjust on the fly to find the sweet spot or is the manual plate fine once adjusted and then just trim in and out as normal.

the pieces coming out of the deck were just part of a rigging tube kit, not sure on the brand...goin into the cowl i just have some holes the same size as the tubes in the front and some big zip ties holding from the bottom, works good.

I gotcha. My cowling and bottem skirt(s) are differnet from your. I'd post a pick to show you, but I don't have one anywhere with the top off. I see how you routing your hose into the cowl, but mine is a bit different. Thanks for taking the time to post a pic.
