New trimate II owner

Hey guys, I found this website after I bought a 1976 Trimate II with a Johnson 140. I haven't had a chance to try it out yet. From what little I know of boats I think I did ok. I paid $1500 for it. The only problem I know of is that there is a drain on the battery, as it needs to be recharged before it will start. But it does have good compression and the interior is in decent shape.

I am looking to pull my kids with the boat and fish some too, plus just cruise the lake. What can I expect for a top speed from this boat? The previous owner said it was quick but didn't know how fast due to the speed indicator device on the back of the boat being broke. There is much for me to learn as I can see from reading through the forums.Hopefully I will get plenty of use out of this boat and maybe see some of you on the lake.

Sounds like a deal to me if it runs good and has a decent interior. Congrats on the boat and have fun. That thing should go pretty well with a 140. I'd guess low 50's as is. I'm assuming it doesn't have a jackplate and that it's about the same year as the boat. If the motor was an 80's model it may be a little quicker and a jackplate would help some also.:welcome:

My Trimate II has a 1977 Johnson 140 and the boat is a 76 model. Where can I find a manual or information on each? I am new to boating and I need to know proper maintenance and trouble shooting. Any help would be appreciated. It will probably be a month or so before I'll take my new old boat for a test ride, but I'll try to get a picture or two posted sometime soon. Thanks.

i bought a 79 trimate this year too, i am new to the checkmates also, a manual can be bought online or at a marina that specializes in that motor, i have a 79 mercury 115 horse inline 6, and my best top speed has been 54 mph, i like the boat i just redid my interior, it was trashed, and i paid 1800 for the boat, lol, have fun with it

by the way the guys on this website are a whole lotta help, feel free to post questions, they will help you lord knows they help me enough, thx again bullittben for helping me with the cylinders boats in the water, thx

Thanks guys, I've looked at a couple of boat shops but they didn't have a manual for the motor I have. I will try looking online or I'll just make a few phone calls. I'm sure I'll be back on this forum with a few questions for you guys to help me with. Take care
