Newbie! Need Prop Help???

DublinDude

New member
Happy to be a new (old) owner of a 1978, 16' Predictor w/90 HP Merc. Got it for $1K !!! It's been well maintained and just needs a little TLC to bring it back to a better life!!!

Need some help on Prop purchase. Looks like it has a 15 pitch on it now and WOT speed is approx. 37 @ 5000 rpm. Prop is in need of replacement anyway and will buy two (like a smart boater...right?)

Any opinions on getting a little higher top end w/out loosing all of the low end and overworking the motor? It jumps out of the water now...so seems like I can sacrifice a bit of the low.

Will likely be cruising, tubing, and occasionally skiing.

Want to get back in the water asap...any help would be greatly appreciated.

when I had the 85hp suzuki on my enticer (same hull but with an open bow), it had a 19p three blade aluminum job. It was still a rocket out of the hole with me or me and a passenger or two, with a full boat it was a bit of a dog but still got on plane. You could prolly try a 20 or 21p for speed and get the other prop for if you know youll be skiing etc (the 19p pulled up a wakeboard or two skis fine, only one buddy of mine ever got up on one though) so maybe a 17 or 18 for that. The 19 wasnt a bad all around prop though if you dont mind dropping a ski

Thanks!!! Great info!!! I thought I'd try the 19 and see if it got me to where I want to be. I'll keep my eyes peeled for a 20 or 21 if someone is selling and try it as well.

Thanks again for the info...feel better about what I'm shopping for now!

This forum is great!!! :bounce:
