Hey everyone new to the site!! From Southern Ontario, Canada, ya ya I'm Canadian (hold for jokes) We live on the St. Clair River, and do most of our boating there or Lake Huron!! We had a 1995 24' Outlaw 7.4 kinda underpowered, was a blast when running properly, solid it due to, well it was crap. (not all the boats fault, I think it lived a hard first life, and was neglected) sold it, bought a Sea Ray 22' BR, and it's just not quick cutting it!! I got the itch. kinda been looking for a CM 242 or a 253...... abit hard to come by in my 400 miles radius (Detroit, Chicago, Cleveland) anyways, anyone know this boat?? https://tim-wall-5mmp.squarespace.com/pop-boats/1997-checkmate-242

Just wanted to introduce myself to the site!! Been reading your threads and they look great!! Open to advice, and links too boats!!

Thanks guys

:welcome: The boat looks pretty clean. The vinyl looks great. I'm not sure if there are snaps on the fiberglass floor. My ZT has a fiberglass floor with removable carpet mats. I'm wondering if this has the same. The speakers look added, but all in all it doesn't look too bad.

Ya I been drooling over that one myself. The hp500 in a 242 should haul ass! Probably around 75-80. I bet that would be a little different than your outlaw. Lol welcome! Btw were not huge baja fans around here just an fyi.

:welcome: I believe others were discussing this boat in the ebay/craigslist section. I think they were saying it was for sale for a less then what grandsport was selling it for. but looks like a nice boat.

Thoughts on a 253 over a 242?? I'm looking at about a 20K budget give or take a couple K. not looking for crazy power 454 mag or 502 is where I kinda want to be. Really would just be a river boat, sea's aren't really an issue, but a good 2-3 foot chop is usually out there. Any advise would be great!!

Thanks guys!!
Anyone know this boat??

id expect around 73-75 with the hp500 and the right prop. was a great boat overall when i had mine. not quite as heavy as the outlaw from what i remember.
good luck. there has been a couple of those popping up for sale here and there.

Welcome! Can't go wrong with any checkmate. Ull have to get used to the speed change when you own one. Trust me. Lol have a 234 persuader with a 7.4mpi runnin 25pitch gps at 81 all stock. So I can only imagin what that 242 will do!

What kind of power do you have in your 259?? I have also thought about this model, but in reality I think it's just out of my reach. I would like to be at a $25K max budget.

The speed is actually not my first priority (well must hit the 60 mark, at least. I was always chasing that 58mph mark in Baja with 7.4L and that drove me nuts!!), I'm looking for a smooth ride, and I'm kind of also limited to length to fit in the boat lift.
