No tilt, no trim, best prop?

Jack that up a few holes at least!I had mine hanging that low and it was like i was dragging an anchor.I had a 17 pitch alum prop to start ,was a pretty scary hole shot!Couldnt think of putting the hammer down.I went right to a omc 23 sst, hole shot wasnt so great. then i raised the engine 3 inches and hold on!A 19 sst would be good for your boat.

Where do you think his propshaft centerline should be Paul? You have yours set up and running well so you probably have about the best idea.

That will be my project for next weekend to move the engine up 2-3 holes.

I plan to use the boat all day today; and since I have some serious hole shot, I'm going to move the trim pin up one or two and see how it does. I'll let you guys know how it went when I get back. Thanks again!

i would think around 2.5- 3 inches.but not with that prop.the rpms sound very low using a 15 pitch prop to me.

Yea, I think WOT is 5500 RPM for this engine, not sure why it only turns 5100. I Don't think this engine had the right plugs in it since it calls for QL 77JC4 and it had UL 77V in it . I just got back from Westmarine with the correct plugs, Gapping at .30 and will install them after I seafoam. I'm thinking new plugs and seafoam might help. :surf:

Was actually getting 5200 before, after seafoam and new plugs and going up two pins on the trim, I got 45MPH on the GPS.. 5600.. Good start, 50's not that
far away. :bigthumb: time for a new prop!

Sounds like a plan. I would raise the motor on the transom and go for a ride and see where it puts you. You may need to go up to an even steeper prop than you think you do right now.

A 19 sst would be good for your boat. I have one used in nice shape.

Wow, just got home after a full 9 hour day, most of it running, and after a few beers and allot of Florida sun. the boat still has a hole shot from hell, not much changed but I picked up 3 mph with out loosing any hole shot. thanks to all who have inputted, I'm feeling inspired by this 37 year old engine. She didn't miss a beat.:D

Paul PM me some pics of that prop... Thanks again!
