Not a Checkmate :(

Hey guys, been awhile since I've posted on CMF!

Anyway, I thought I update you all as too my new 'project'

I picked up a 1996 Chris Craft 18 Concept (An innocuous 90's boat).
I purchased from my boss and her husband for $500. It had been sitting for 7+ years, mostly uncovered and with a cracked block.

I brought her home, removed entire interior, motor, and drive and started the resurrection...

MOTOR: OMC/Volvo Penta 5.0L, 302ci with the VP SX out drive (1:1.66). Bought a short block from a local rebuilder and put all the old stuff back on (intake, exhaust, carb, electrics etc..)

Re-installed motor and now just need interior to be redone (this next week).

She's no where as fast as the Baja (haven't run her at WOT, due to break-in and winterization) but she's healthy!

She has a fiberglass liner so, there was not rotten wood, just a lot of bad vinyl and in need of a good cleaning, which she got.

I'm into her for: $500 (boat) $950 (remanufactured motor), $300 (Misc) and interior will be ~$1,000.00.

She was rough...

First time back in water in 7+ years.

Her hull was in excellent shape...PO did a poor job of winterization and I ended up with her because of!!!

I'll post a few more pics after interior is done!

Great story and nice work! I love hearing stories like this...the value that can be achieved with some work and know how is amazing. Looking forward to more pics of the interior...congrats on making a great deal a reality.

Ordered the new vinyl from veada.com...

And...I scored a major, major industrial sewing machine...for FREE.

It's a JUKI DLN-415-2 can sew up to 5,000spm (yes, that's correct!) that's about 4,900spm more than I can handle. I ordered new dog, needles and plate for the 16oz bonded polyester thread.

The beast:

A few practice stitches on some left over vinyl from the baja. Some smaller nylon upholstery thread, just checking the tension...
FRENCH SEAM:

FLAT Straight Seam:

The existing vinyl on the boat is complete enough to make templates...

I'll update as I manufacture the new vinyl!

Ordered new vinyl from veada.com (same place as my Baja vinyl)

Ordered new dogs, plate and needles to accommodate the larger 16oz thread. Ordered a welting foot to accommodate some of the welting that is going on. And finally, I ordered a servo-type motor to be able to control my speeds more accurately...It's just too hard to control the speeds consistently and feed the material.

Not a Checkmate...Update

Hey Guys, Hope you're all gearing up for a nice summer?! It's been a while since I posted on here as I've been playing around more on the iboats forum...

Thought I'd update where I'm at on the Chris Craft!

Got my custom covers all made using Weathermax80 material...

Got the interior all finished and installed, new stereo/speakers and bimini. Re-splashed yesterday...had planing and speed issues yesterday (pretty sure it's either timing or carburetor) anyway...
