OMC Renegade help needed!

Ok prop experts, time for some help!! my buddy bought Bruces (a member here) little 170 last year with an evinrude 120 on it. Bruce had a renegade prop sent in for warranty repair as it had burned the hub out of it. i picked the prop in august and we tried it and blew the hub out of it again. sent the prop in for warranty repair #2 got a new prop. was told by bombardier that they wouldn't cover it a third time.

They told me that the pickup on the trim tab that sends additional water to the exhaust cavity (huh???) was plugged. i dropped the lower this fall to have a looky and saw nothing out of the ordinary and no blockage of any kind. i replaced the water pump this spring and reinstalled it today. pumping water like a champ.

anyone have any bright idea why this would happen? i don't want the prop to blow again. the boat was pulling 52 with the renegade and 55 - 56 with the 4 blade. all speeds are speedo.

Chris, I'm with you in not buying BRP's explanation for spinning the hub. I have 15 year old OMC Renegade, with the original hub, being turned by a 200hp V6. I don't believe a 120 V4 should be spinning that hub. Most guys will tell you it is the oil in the exhaust that eventually compromises the hub. That usually is a matter of years not days. The prop isn't rubbing somewhere is it? What is the clearance to the trim tab? If it was very close it could possibly be catching and burning that way, although you would probably see a nick on the prop. One other thing, is he using the right thrust washer? Renegade's have a specific thrust washer. The wrong one could be somehow be binding on the rubber in the hub.

interesting, the thrust washer that came with it is supposed to be the right one, perhaps another look is in order. it's a $700 prop - really want to make sure it's right this time!

there was no issue with the tab clearance - seemed fine. i just don't get this hole water in the exhaust through the trim tab thing.
