Persuader 235 opinions

sportfire135

New member
I curently own a 16'7" sportfire with a 135 blackmax and was looking to upgrade to a persuader 235. Can anyone tell me how different these 2 hulls are? My sportfire gets thrown around quite a bit in the waves and is a very rough ride. Will the persuader perform better in rough waters or should I be looking for a different hull?

I am not sure if you recived my reply from the private message you sent me but I am hooked on the Convincor hull. I had a blast running our 235 but no comparison to the ride quality of the Convincor. I am kind of long legged and the 235 was a little tight. Being able to stand in a bolster seat makes for a nicer ride also. My passengers have all assured me they like how safe the 283 feels compared to the 235 haulin across the water.

I agree with ProblemChild, you can't beat a Convinvor or even the zt240 and bigger for ride. That being said, I'm sure a 235 would be a night and day difference compared to the 16' Sportfire. I noticed a big difference in ride quality between our friends 16' Predictor and my old 21' Starflite, and a 235 Persuader is a lot deeper than my Flite.

Sportfire + 135 v6 = nice package! Started with a sportfire myself. Ask yourself what water am I planning to do the majority of my boating on. Anything from several hundred to several thousand acres the 235 would make fine choice. Any bigger go with a deeper V like a 242, 24ZT, 251 or 253. After 25 yrs of sitting on a damn pedalstol seat 6 inches off the floor, there's nothing like climbing into a boat that doesn't stop at your knees and driving from a drop out bolster seat is the coolest, with that said I know my 24ZT is a 1000 lbs lighter then 251,253's witch I don't mind. Still offers some seat of pants thrills and at 45 mph I'm pulling 3 miles to the gallon. I do know that Corey and P C and I enjoy the bigger water that demands the deeper V's. Good Luck Looking!

It will be a mix of lake and river boating. I was looking to stay in the 21-24' range. It will be mainly day trips and I will most likely only sleep on it once or twice a year. Mainly looking for something that is still fast but will not get beat up so bad when out on the river

That being said, I think a zt240, like merc245 has, or a 242 Convincor would be perfect for you. It is in the top of your range, 24ft, and the ride would be great. You get the luxury of sit down or stand up bolsters, they are both a deep boat, which feels safe, and the cabin area is leaps and bounds better than a 235 for those times you want to sleep on it. In the 235 you will have to get on your hands and knees to crawl up under the front, which is fine I did it for years in my 21 Starflite, but the ZT and Convincor will have a cabin you can step down into. Makes it a ton easier to get in and out. The biggest difference between the zt240 and 242 Convincor is the swim platform. The ZT's is molded and the Convincor has one that's bolted to the transom. So its a matter of style, I personally don't think you could go wrong with either!!!

I had a 235 for a few years. The ride would be better but not great. If you want a good ride in rough water stick with a 24 degree deadrise hull, the persuader is only 22. My main complaint with mine was the SMALL cockpit and the Checkmate bounce.

A lot of good advice on here. Go out and take a ride in a Persuader and then a Convincor before you buy your next one. There's a world of difference in couple degrees deadrise. I moved up from a 219 Persuader to a 242. The Persuader was super fun boat until it got rough. Good luck shopping.

Where do you boat? You mentioned river running, what river?

Lot's of differences between the Persuader and Convincor models. But if you're out on 'big water' (Great Lakes, huge reservoirs, etc.), you'll be happier with the Convincor.

My Persuader 219 (BBC/Bravo1) is fine on my smaller chain of lakes. Almost too much boat in some cases. But I wouldn't run it out on the Great Lakes or Detroit River. Just not enough hull.

The Connecticut river is where we do most of our boating

I have run our 235 in 2-3 footers up in Traverse City and handles them fine. It was more fun for me driving than my wife as the passenger but doable . We ran about 25 miles out toward Lelanau and back. We have also run it at Lake Cumberland. The man who bought it new ran it on lake Michigan Holland area for 19 years.

We run on a smaller lake in the Finger Lakes in NY, Keuka Lake and our 23'9" Stiletto handles 95% of all water the lake can throw at us. The lake is 21 miles long and 190' deep. I have owned 3 deep v Cobalt boats and our Stiletto runs just as well in the rough water is the Cobalt.
I agree with everyone else you may be best served to go with the 24 ZT or a Convincer.
